Protimeter MMS3 Standard Kit
The MMS3 is Protimeter's current-generation moisture measurement system: a pin moisture meter, a non-invasive scanner, a thermo-hygrometer and an infrared surface thermometer in one instrument, with Bluetooth logging to the Protimeter Connect app.
The Standard Kit is the Basic Kit supplied in a hard plastic carry case with a foam insert. Same instrument, same sensors, better protection.

How this kit differs
It does not include deep wall probes, a hammer electrode, a Hygrostick or a surface temperature sensor. If you need to read inside wall cavities, the Survey Kit in Case adds them; if you read at depth in timber, the Restoration Kit includes the hammer electrode. Each of those accessories can also be bought separately and added later.
Four instruments in one
Pin mode
Measures moisture where the pins make contact. Use it to quantify how far moisture has travelled and to track a structure drying out day by day. Built-in pins for surface work, or plug in the heavy duty probe, deep wall probes or a hammer electrode to read at depth.
Non-invasive scan mode
Reads below the surface without marking it, using radio frequency. Standard mode reads to about 19 mm; sensitivity mode reads to about 12 cm. Use it to map the extent of a problem before deciding where to put pins. Surface moisture does not distort the reading.
Metal in the substrate — reinforcing mesh, foil-backed insulation, metal lath — produces false high readings. Confirm anything unexpected in pin mode.
Hygrometry
With a Hygrostick or Quickstick fitted, the MMS3 measures relative humidity, air temperature, dew point, specific humidity and vapour pressure. This is the mode used to verify dehumidifier performance, to test equilibrium relative humidity in concrete slabs, and to establish whether conditions favour mould growth.
Infrared surface temperature
A non-contact laser thermometer reads surface temperature and compares it against dew point, so you can identify surfaces at risk of condensation without touching them.

Which MMS3 kit should you buy?
Every kit contains the same MMS3 instrument. The difference is which probes and sensors are packed with it, and whether it ships in a soft pouch or a hard case. Buying the right kit is cheaper than buying the meter twice.

Every accessory below is confirmed by Protimeter as fitting the MMS range.

Important — two part numbers that are easily confused
The plug-in surface temperature sensor is BLD5808. BLD5806 is the extension lead for mini Hygrosticks and is not a temperature probe. Ordering BLD5806 expecting a temperature sensor is a common mistake.
Frequently asked questions
Does the MMS3 replace the MMS2?
Yes. The MMS3 is the current generation. It adds Bluetooth and the Protimeter Connect app, on-board storage for 10,000 readings, a colour display and a deeper non-invasive sensitivity mode. MMS2 accessories carry across — probes, Hygrosticks, Quicksticks and leads are shared between the two generations.
Can I test concrete slabs to ASTM F2170 with this?
The MMS3 performs the measurement, but in-situ relative humidity testing also needs sleeves, a drill bit and a hole brush. Those are supplied in the flooring accessory range rather than in these kits.
Which humidity sensor should I use?
The Quickstick ST responds faster and covers the full 0–99% RH range, which suits general restoration work. The Hygrostick is the choice for sustained high humidity and harsh conditions such as equilibrium RH in concrete, where it operates between 30% and 98% RH. Both are replaceable and both are consumable — they drift with age and exposure.
How often should it be calibrated?
Pin mode can be checked in the field at any time with the Calcheck device (BLD5086). For a documented conformance certificate, twelve months is a sensible starting interval, adjusted to your own work environment and quality procedures. Certification is available in Australia.
Why does the scan mode read high on a wall that feels dry?
Non-invasive mode responds to anything conductive behind the surface, not only water. Reinforcing mesh, foil-backed insulation, metal lath, pipework and wiring all produce false highs. Confirm with pins before recording a reading.
Are readings above 30% WME accurate?
No, and Protimeter says so plainly. Above roughly 30% the pin scale becomes relative rather than absolute. It still tells you the material is wet and still tracks the direction of drying, which is what matters on a restoration job.
Care and maintenance
- Refit the pin cap after every use. Bent or broken pins are the most common cause of an instrument coming in for repair, and the cap is a low-cost replaceable part
- Check pin mode against the Calcheck device before any job where the reading will be reported to a third party
- Treat humidity sensors as consumables. Replace rather than attempt to recalibrate them
- Remove the batteries if the instrument is going into storage for an extended period
- Clean pins with a dry cloth. Do not immerse the instrument or use solvents on the display
