Pump Repair Kits & Seals

A pump that has lost pressure is rarely a pump that has finished. Most of them fail at a seal, a valve or a plunger, and all three are a bench job with a kit, a spanner and an afternoon — against a replacement pump that can run into four figures.

The diagnosis matters more than the part. Water in the oil, a weeping head and a pump that will not hold pressure at idle are three different faults with three different kits.

How to choose

Diagnose before ordering. Weeping from the head points to a seal kit. Pressure that will not hold, or that pulses, points to the valve kit. Water emulsified in the oil means the seals have been gone for a while and the plunger may be scored too.

Hot and cold seal kits are different parts. The CAT 3CP hot and dry kit and the Hydra Pump II hot seals kit exist because heat destroys standard elastomers. Fitting a cold-service kit to a heated machine buys weeks, not years.

Match the Hypro kit by its full number. The 3430-0501 and 3430-0506 are both 2220B water seal kits and they are not the same. Order by the suffix.

Do seals and valves together on a high-hour pump. If the pump has earned its keep, the second kit will be needed within months and the machine is already apart.
