The MO290 combines three instruments a restoration technician would otherwise carry separately: a pinless moisture meter, a psychrometer for temperature and relative humidity, and an infrared surface thermometer.
That matters because a drying decision needs all three together. Material moisture without ambient conditions does not tell you whether the material is going to keep drying.

How to choose
Pinless finds it, pins quantify it. The MO290 reads a volume beneath the surface without marking it — ideal for scanning a finished floor. The MO290-HP hammer probe adds pin measurement at depth for timber and subfloor.
Buy the kit if you work restoration. The RK contractor kit bundles what gets bought separately within a month, in a case that survives a work vehicle.
Infrared reads surface temperature, not moisture. It is for finding cold spots and evaporative cooling that indicate wet material. Treating an IR reading as a moisture reading is a common and consequential mistake.
Surface preparation matters on pinless. The meter reads what is under the sensor, including fasteners and foil backing. A reading taken over a nail is meaningless.
