Larger diameter vacuum hose moves more air, which is exactly what a truckmount or a flood job needs. The catch is that most tools are built for 2 inch, so the run has to step down somewhere — and where it steps down decides how much lift you keep.

How to choose

Reduce as late as possible. Every step down costs airflow. Keep 2.5 inch all the way to the tool and put the reducer at the tool end, not at the machine.

Measure the hose, not the machine. Cuff size follows hose outside diameter. A cuff that is close but not right leaks around the whole circumference and the loss does not show on a gauge at the machine.

Swivels save the hose. A fixed cuff transfers every twist into the hose wall. On a machine dragged around furniture all day, a swivel extends hose life more than it improves handling.

Check the cuff O-ring first. A cuff that will not hold is usually a perished O-ring rather than a worn cuff.
