Ozone & Hydroxyl

Odour that survives cleaning is odour bound into surfaces you cannot reach. Generators treat the space rather than the surface, which is what makes them the last step on fire, protein and severe odour jobs.

Choosing between hydroxyl and ozone is a safety decision before it is a performance one, and getting it the wrong way round is the most consequential mistake in this category.

How to choose

Hydroxyl generators are designed to run in occupied spaces. Ozone is not. Ozone requires the area to be vacated during treatment and properly aired before re-entry. If the building has to stay in use, that decides the choice on its own — follow the manufacturer's instructions for the unit you have, without exception.

Size by volume, then by contents. Rated coverage assumes an ordinary room. A space packed with soft furnishings, or one with heavy smoke loading, needs longer or a larger unit — the surfaces are the reservoir.

Clean and seal before you treat. A generator applied to unsealed char or an untreated source is fighting a supply that keeps replenishing. Source removal first, then cleaning, then sealing, then the generator.

Airflow does the distribution. These units treat the air that reaches them. Pair with air movers so the whole volume circulates, rather than treating one corner thoroughly.

Intake filters are consumables. On a fire job the intake loads quickly, and a restricted intake reduces output well before it looks blocked.
