Benefect Original Botanical is a ready-to-use botanical cleaner and deodoriser whose active ingredient is thymol, present as a component of thyme oil. It needs no mixing and no rinsing or wiping after use: apply it and let it air dry. Restoration contractors use it on water damage, sewage and mould jobs, on construction materials, and for carpet and underlay deodorising.
In North America it is sold as Benefect Botanical Disinfectant under a US EPA registration. That registration does not apply in Australia, and CCW sells it as a cleaner and deodoriser.
This listing: carton of 12 x 4 US oz (about 118 mL) pump sprays, CCW SKU ICP21275-4OZx12.

- Grey and black water (sewage) and trauma clean-up: after the gross contamination has been removed

- To deodorise: apply and allow to air dry. No rinsing or wiping is needed.
- Apply by pump sprayer, mop, brush, cloth or sponge. Test surface compatibility in a hidden area first.
Safety
The Australian SDS (ICP Group Australasia, version 1.1, August 2026) classifies Benefect Botanical as non-hazardous: no pictogram, signal word or hazard statements. It is not regulated as dangerous goods for road, air or sea transport.
PPE is set by the job, not only by the chemical. A non-hazardous product does not make sewage, mould or trauma work safe. Wear the PPE the contamination requires, and follow your site's WHS procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Benefect Original a registered disinfectant in Australia?
No. Its disinfectant registration is with the US EPA, which does not apply here, and no Benefect product is listed on the ARTG. CCW sells it as a cleaner and deodoriser. Where a job specification calls for a listed disinfectant, use a listed product such as Actichem Percide.
Do I need to rinse it off?
No. Apply it and let it air dry. To clean, apply and wipe away.
Original or Decon 30?
Both use thymol from thyme oil and are ready to use. Decon 30 adds botanical cleaning surfactants for one-step cleaning, and has a clear appearance and lighter scent.
Is it hazardous?
The Australian SDS classifies it as non-hazardous. The PPE you wear is still set by the contamination on the job.
Can I use it on carpet?
Yes, for deodorising carpet, underlay and semi-porous furnishings. Test colourfastness first.
A Note on Earlier Versions of This Page
Earlier versions of this page carried the manufacturer's North American marketing for Benefect Botanical Disinfectant: kill rates of over 99.99%, named bacteria and viruses (including HIV-1, MRSA and tuberculosis), "food surface contact sanitiser", and statements that the product had been reviewed by the US Environmental Protection Agency and was "available for sale in all States". Those are US EPA registrations and refer to US states. In Australia, disinfectant and germ-kill claims need an ARTG listing, and no Benefect product is listed, so those claims have been removed. We have also removed "no PPE required", which is not a statement we can make for every job. Benefect Original Botanical is unchanged. Where a scope calls for a listed disinfectant, ask us: Actichem Percide is the listed peroxide option we carry.
