Benefect Atomic is a solvent-free, heavy-duty botanical cleaner and degreaser concentrate. Benefect formulate it to lift particulate with minimal agitation, which makes it suited to fire and smoke damaged contents and surfaces: walls, floors, ceilings, cupboards, appliances, timber, metal and tile. Removing the soot at the source is what removes most of the fire odour.

This listing: 1 US gallon (3.78 L) jug of concentrate, CCW SKU ICP80475-1.

Key Features

  • Concentrate: dilute to suit the soiling
  • Solvent-free, with no VOCs according to Benefect
  • No fragrances, dyes, petrochemicals, phosphates, EDTA, NTA or alkyl/nonyl phenols
  • Odourless (slight detergent smell), so it does not mask what is left
  • Lifts soot with minimal agitation

Applications

  • Fire and smoke damaged contents and surfaces
  • Trauma scenes
  • Commercial kitchens: ovens, fume hoods, pots and pans, stainless steel, racking and around grills
  • Filtration lines on carpet at doorways, skirting boards and vents
  • Other porous and non-porous materials on fire and water damage sites

Directions

  • Contents and light soot: 2–4 oz per US gallon of water (15–30 mL per litre). Apply by brush, sprayer or mop, leave 5 minutes, then wipe off or rinse.
  • Heavy or slimy soot and grease: 16 oz per US gallon of water (about 125 mL per litre) up to full strength. Wipe off or rinse. (Benefect's data sheet prints this rate as "120 mL"; that figure matches a per-litre rate.)

Work from the top down on walls. Test surfaces first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can an unscented product deal with fire odour?

By removing the soot that carries the odour. Atomic contains no fragrance, so the result is the surface itself, not a masked smell.

What dilution should I start at?

15–30 mL per litre for contents and light soot. Go up to about 125 mL per litre, or full strength, for heavy or greasy soot.

Do I need PPE?

Yes. The Australian SDS classifies it as a skin and eye irritant. Wear gloves and eye protection.

Is it safe on all surfaces?

Its pH is about 11 as a concentrate. Test first, particularly on soft metals, finished timber and painted surfaces.

What comes after Atomic on a fire job?

Clean, then deal with residual odour, then seal what remains with a smoke odour sealer such as Fiberlock RECON or RECON ULTRA.

A Note on Earlier Versions of This Page

Earlier versions of this page described Atomic as made from all-natural ingredients with no hazardous ingredients. The current Australian SDS classifies it as a skin and eye irritant (Warning), so we have removed those statements and added the PPE guidance. We have also removed the link to Benefect's "Clean. Kill. Coat." flyer, which is US marketing material that carries disinfectant claims.
