Product Overview

Actichem Responsibly Green Bathroom Cleaner is designed for use on all washroom surfaces, including walls, floors and bathroom fittings. It incorporates enzyme and anti-resoiling technology to keep surfaces clean and repel dirt.

It is the mildly alkaline member of the washroom range, at pH 8.5 to 8.8. Its acid siblings — Toilet Bowl Cleaner and Shower Cleaner — sit at pH 2 to 3 and are the ones to reach for on limescale. Bathroom Cleaner is the everyday maintenance product, and regular use reduces how often you need the harsh, deep-cleaning acids at all.

Application Areas and Surface Suitability

Suitable on all bathroom surfaces, including walls, floors, chrome and glass. Being mildly alkaline rather than acidic, it is also the safer choice around natural stone and polished surfaces, where the acid washroom products would etch.

How to Use

1. Read and understand the SDS before use.
2. Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity to chemicals.

Dilution

• Lightly soiled surfaces — 1:150 (6 ml per litre)
• Heavily soiled surfaces — 1:100 (10 ml per litre)
• Toilet bowls, urinals and tough stains — undiluted

Application

Toilet bowls and urinals: squirt directly under the rim or into the urinal so as to cover the entire bowl. Agitate with a toilet brush and flush. Stubborn stains may require 5 to 10 minutes dwell time.

Showers, toilets, basins: spray directly onto the area to be cleaned, or apply to a sponge or scourer pad first. Spread and agitate, then rinse with clear water.

Floors and walls: apply the solution with a clean mop, cloth or sponge. Agitate and allow dwell time for stubborn soils. Rinse with clear water.

Bathroom Cleaner is classified as a HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL under the Model WHS Regulations. It is not classified as dangerous goods and carries no poisons schedule.

Skin Sensitisation Category 1A is the strongest sensitisation category, and it behaves differently from ordinary irritation. An irritant hurts the first time. A sensitiser usually does not — it quietly builds an immune response over months or years of contact, and then one day the same product that never bothered you produces dermatitis that will recur every time you touch it afterwards.

That matters more for this product than for almost anything else in the range, because this is a daily-use washroom cleaner that the method above tells you to apply undiluted, by hand, into toilet bowls. The people most at risk are the ones who have used it longest without gloves.

The enzyme content is the most likely reason for the classification — proteolytic enzymes are well-recognised respiratory and skin sensitisers in the cleaning industry. Wear gloves every time, not just on the heavy jobs. If a cleaner in your team has developed hand dermatitis, this is a product worth reviewing with their doctor.

Personal protective equipment

The SDS specifies elbow-length chemical protective gloves — neoprene or butyl recommended — safety glasses with side shields or chemical goggles, barrier cream and access to an eye wash unit. H318 means undiluted product in the eye can cause permanent damage, and squirting under a toilet rim is a splash-back geometry.

First aid

Eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water, holding the eyelids apart. Seek medical attention without delay.

Skin. Remove contaminated clothing and wash thoroughly with soap and water. If a rash, redness or itching develops, stop using the product and seek medical advice — with a Category 1A sensitiser, an early reaction is a warning worth acting on.

Mixing

The SDS lists no known incompatible materials. Two practical rules still apply:

• Never mix with an acid washroom cleaner. Bathroom Cleaner is alkaline; Toilet Bowl Cleaner and Shower Cleaner are pH 2 to 3. Mixing them neutralises both and wastes the job.
• Never mix with bleach. Hypochlorite destroys the enzyme package, and in a washroom the acid-plus-bleach chlorine gas risk is always one bottle away. Rinse between products.
