VacAway describes Red Vanish as an AMAZING crystallising "one-part" dye stain remover that will make a novice carpet cleaner look like a pro. It eliminates the hassle of a two-part stain remover, and you can be assured there will never be a sticky residue left to cause a re-soiling problem.
It will remove stains on carpet caused by red food dye, coffee, wine, blood, urine, vomit and similar. It will also improve many furniture stains on carpeting. VacAway notes it is especially effective on Red Dye #40, the dye found in many children's drinks and foods.
Red Vanish can be used with or without heat with excellent results; however, the use of heat will increase the risk of bleaching. Many times the use of heat with Red Vanish can be avoided by simply treating individual stains during your pre-inspection while the carpet is still dry.
Quite frequently, when it comes time to clean the area, Red Vanish will already have caused the stains to disappear or reduced the stains to the point they will clean right out with HWE, pads or bonnets. If not, then you can resort to heat or re-treat the stain and give it more time.
Red Vanish contains a unique combination of ingredients that cause it to crystallise upon drying. The dried crystalline is powdery and can be removed with routine vacuuming.
Important: Synthetic Carpet or Wool?
This product is for colourfast synthetic carpet. For wool or delicate carpet and upholstery, use VacAway Red Vanish Wool 946 mL, which VacAway formulates for wool and directs to be used without heat.
Application
- Apply Red Vanish generously undiluted to the stain.
- Agitate the stained area.
- Use with or without heat.
Using With Heat
Heat will speed up the stain removal process but will also increase the risk of bleaching the carpet. When using heat, set a household-type iron on the lowest setting. Place a wet towel over the stain and place the iron on the towel over the stain. Check every 10 to 20 seconds to monitor progress. Stop the procedure if any sign of bleaching occurs. An even better heat source is a wallpaper remover/steamer.
Using Without Heat
Apply Red Vanish. If the stain can't be removed after several minutes dwell time, reapply and cover with plastic to slow down the drying. Most stains can then be easily removed with a good spotter and an absorbent towel two to twenty-four hours later.
Tips From the Job
- Treat dye stains at pre-inspection, before the carpet is wet from cleaning. The dwell time costs you nothing while you set up.
- Test in a hidden area first. Bleaching of the carpet's own dye is the main risk, and heat makes it more likely.
- Do not follow up with an acidic spotter until the Red Vanish has been rinsed or vacuumed out. The SDS warns that acidification may release sulphur dioxide.
- Vacuum the dried crystals out, or rinse the area during extraction.

- Test all carpet for colourfastness before using any carpet cleaning product.
- Keep out of the reach of children.

- Avoid eye contact or prolonged skin contact. On contact with eye or skin, flush thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, consult a physician.
- Never take internally.
- Do not re-use container. Dispose of this container according to government regulations.

The SDS on file (The Cleaner Image, US format, revised 3 April 2024) gives the signal word Warning, says the product may irritate eyes and skin, lists pH below 11 and states it is not regulated for US transport. It lists a sulphur dioxide exposure limit and warns that acidification may release sulphur dioxide. Wear gloves and eye protection when spotting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it work on old stains?
Often, but set dye stains take longer. Use the no-heat method with plastic cover and give it up to 24 hours before resorting to heat.
Do I need to rinse it out?
VacAway says the dried crystals are powdery and vacuum out. If you are extracting the area anyway, rinsing removes it at the same time.
Can I use it on wool?
No. This version is for synthetic carpet. Use Red Vanish Wool, without heat.
Which size should I buy?
The 946 mL bottle suits a spotting kit. If you use a lot, the 3.78 L is the refill size.
