Where the mat goes
At the threshold of a containment area, on the clean side. Foot traffic leaving the work zone picks up the dust you have been controlling and carries it into the rest of the building — which is how a properly built containment still ends with dust complaints.
Peel a layer when the surface stops being tacky, not when it looks dirty. A loaded surface transfers dust rather than holding it.
Using it well
- Lay it on a clean, dry, flat floor. Dust or moisture under the mat stops it sitting flat.
- Place it so every step out of the zone lands on it — ideally at least one full stride, not a corner someone can step over.
- Peel the top layer from a corner and fold it in on itself so the collected dust stays on the adhesive side.
- Bag used layers with the rest of the job waste from that zone.
How quickly a layer loads up depends on foot traffic and how dusty the zone is. Check it at every break rather than working to a fixed schedule.
It works with containment, not instead of it
A tacky mat controls what leaves on shoes. It does nothing about airborne dust, which is what barriers, edge seals and negative air handle. A zip door such as the ZipWall Standard ZipDoor gives a controlled entry point — put the mat on the clean side of it.

Is it a replacement pad for a ZipWall mat base?
This product is sold as a stand-alone 913 x 610 mm blue mat. We have not confirmed it as a refill for any branded mat base, so do not order it on that basis without checking with us.
Will it damage the floor?
We do not have manufacturer guidance on floor compatibility. Test in an inconspicuous spot first, and do not lay it on carpet, timber finishes or a sealed or coated floor that is still curing without checking with us.
Does it replace shoe covers?
No. Shoe covers stop dust leaving on footwear in the first place; the mat catches what gets past. On a mould or high-contamination job, use both.
