Keep them hand tight

Delmhorst is specific about this: retainers should be hand tightened. A retainer done up with pliers strips its thread, and then the pin moves under hammer load and the reading wanders.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know the retainer is worn rather than the pin?

If a new pin still works loose after a few drives, or the retainer no longer bites when hand tightened, replace the retainer.

What is the difference between this and the 631 chuck?

The 631 chuck is the body the retainer threads into. They are separate wear parts on the same assembly and fit the same three electrodes.

Is this the retainer for my 21-E?

No. The 21-E and 18-ES use the 305RET-0021 retainer, which is sized for the longer 608 pins.
