Leather Master Nubuck Cleaner is a water-based cleaner for nubuck leather. It is the liquid step in the Leather Master nubuck range, for stains and heavy soiling that the dry Nubuck Cloth will not shift.
- Nubuck cleaner is designed to gently remove stains and heavy soiling from nubuck and other sensitive leathers.
- Because it is sensitive leather, chemical cleaners should only be used on nubuck when necessary.
- For regular cleaning, we recommend the Nubuck Cloth.
What It Is For
Nubuck has an open, brushed surface, so it absorbs liquid quickly and marks easily. Leather Master describe Nubuck Cleaner as a gentle, pH-neutral, water-based cleaner and stain remover with moderate cleaning power, for nubuck and suede.
Use it when the dry cloth is not enough: general soiling across seats and arms, or stains that have gone into the nap. For light soiling, flattened nap and body-oil matting, start with the Nubuck Cloth. It uses no liquid and can be used to spot clean.
Important: Clean Seam to Seam
Liquid darkens nubuck while it is wet, and a spot-cleaned patch can dry to a visible mark. Leather Master's directions are to clean the whole panel, from seam to seam, rather than a single spot. Allow for this when you quote the job.
How to Use Nubuck Cleaner
From Leather Master's directions:
- Test first on a hidden area (see below).
- Dampen a colourfast sponge with water and squeeze out the excess.
- Apply Nubuck Cleaner to the sponge as foam, not as liquid. The Leather Master Foaming Bottle makes this easier.
- Apply the foam to the surface with gentle, circular movements. Do not rub or scrub.
- Work seam to seam across each panel.
- Leave to dry. This takes about 1 hour.
- Once the leather is completely dry, apply Nubuck Eco Protector.
Test Before You Clean
Most nubuck is not colourfast. Apply a little product to a clean white cloth, rub gently on a hidden area and check the cloth. Let the area dry and check the leather for any change before you clean the piece. Some colour on the cloth is normal on nubuck; heavy transfer or a visible change to the leather means stop and contact us.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I use the cloth or the cleaner?
Start with the Nubuck Cloth. It is dry, leaves no water marks and can be used on spots. Use Nubuck Cleaner when the cloth does not remove the soiling, and then clean seam to seam.
Can I use it on smooth (pigmented or aniline) leather?
Leather Master list it for nubuck and suede. For pigmented and aniline leather, use Leather Master Soft Cleaner or, for heavier soiling, Strong Cleaner.
Why has the leather gone darker?
Nubuck darkens while damp. It should even out as it dries, which is why the whole panel is cleaned, not just the mark. Allow the full hour before judging the result.
Does it remove oil and grease stains?
Oil that has soaked into the leather needs a degreaser, not a cleaner. See Leather Master Leather Degreaser.
Do I need to protect the leather afterwards?
Yes. Cleaning removes protection along with the soil. Apply Nubuck Eco Protector once the leather is fully dry.
