A barrier is only as good as its edges
Containment under negative pressure fails at the gaps, not in the middle of the sheet. Air takes the easiest path, and a 20 mm gap along a ceiling line will carry more air than the rest of the barrier combined — which means dust, spores or odour going exactly where you promised they would not.
Seal the top, seal the sides, and check the barrier is drawing inward once the air scrubber is running. A barrier that bows toward you is not sealed.
How the rails work
The rail clips to the top of a pole and presses a foam face against the ceiling. Instead of a single contact point where the pole meets the ceiling, you get a continuous 1.2 m seal — which is what turns a sheet hung across a room into an actual barrier.
Rails join end to end, so a wide opening is sealed by adding rails rather than adding poles.
The clip that holds them is the T-clip. For wall and column edges, use Side-Seal clamps or the complete Side-Seal kit.
Fitting Advice
- Fit the T-clip to the top of the pole, seat the rail in it, then raise the pole so the foam face presses the sheet against the ceiling.
- Work along the ceiling line so rails butt end to end with no gaps between them.
- Keep the foam face clean — plaster dust and debris stop it seating flat.
- Check the ceiling finish first on fresh paint or delicate surfaces.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many rails do I need?
Enough to cover the ceiling line of the barrier: roughly the barrier length divided by 1.2 m, rounded up.
Are these the same rails as in the Side-Seal kit?
Same system, different length. The Side-Seal kit rails are 0.9 m; these are 1.2 m. Both clip on with T-clips.
Do I get T-clips?
Yes — 2 T-clips come with the pack. Spares: T-clip.
