Wagner L722 Stack Probe Extension Cable (830-71202-001)

Replacement extension cable for the Wagner L722 Lumber Stack Probe. Wagner's distributors list this part (830-71202-001) as the L712/L722 coiled cord, which connects the stack probe to the hand-held meter.

CCW's listing previously described the L722 as a digital recording lumber moisture meter. The L722 is the stack probe; the L622 is the meter it plugs into.

Cables Are the Failure Point on a Stack Probe

A stack probe is used repeatedly in a kiln or a timber stack, and the cable is flexed, dragged and stood on every time. It fails at the strain relief, and the symptom is readings that jump or drop out when the lead is moved rather than an obvious break.

Checking Before You Replace

1. Take readings on a known board while gently flexing the cable at each end. Readings that change as the cable moves point to the cable.
2. Inspect both plugs for bent pins, corrosion or cracked housings.
3. Check the probe head and leaf springs. Worn springs also give inconsistent readings; they are user-replaceable (see the L722 spare parts kit).
4. After fitting a new cable, check the meter on the Calibration Verification Block.
