VacAway Rhino Shield Gold is a fluorochemical carpet protector concentrate for professional application after cleaning. VacAway says extensive side-by-side testing has shown Rhino Shield to out-perform the "big name" protectors on the market, and that it delivers strong fluorochemical protection for resistance against soil, spills and oil.
CCW's listing adds that it is especially good at blocking stains from acid dyes, such as those found in red children's drinks and many other food and drink products. Rhino Shield may be applied to both synthetic and natural fibres; with its enhanced acid-dye blocking ability, it is especially beneficial when applied to nylon or wool.
Important: Check Which Carpets It Is Intended For
CCW's listing (above) describes an acid-dye blocking protector aimed at nylon and wool. VacAway's current page for Rhino Shield Gold describes it as designed for solution-dyed carpets such as polyester and olefin, and for refreshing stain-resistant carpets. We are confirming with VacAway whether the Gold formula includes the acid-dye blocker. Until then, test on nylon and wool before a full application, and ask us if a job depends on stain-blocking performance.

Directions
- Pre-test all carpets for colourfastness before applying this or any other product.
- For DAMP carpet, dilute at 1:8 and apply 1 L ready-to-use per 10 m² for residential or 1 L ready-to-use per 20 m² for commercial.
- For DRY carpet, dilute at 1:17 and apply 1 L ready-to-use per 5 m² for residential or 1 L ready-to-use per 10 m² for commercial.
- Best applied with a low-pressure sprayer using 30 to 60 psi and an 8004 TeeJet.
- To ensure complete and even coverage, use a 50% overlapping spray pattern and brush or rake the carpet immediately after application.
- If accidentally applied to other surfaces, such as hardwood floors or skirting boards, wipe off before the product becomes dry.
- Tell the customer to allow their carpet to dry before using it.
- If the product becomes frozen, thaw at room temperature and shake well before using.
- Do not mix with other products. We recommend you use a dedicated sprayer and flush it with water after use.
VacAway's own page gives the damp-carpet figure as 1:8, making nine gallons of ready-to-use protector per gallon of concentrate and covering about 3,600 sq ft of residential carpet (about 9.8 m² per litre ready to use). That agrees with the damp residential rate above.

Safety
The SDS on file (VacAway Rhino-Shield, The Cleaner Image, US format, revised 3 April 2024) describes a proprietary aqueous mixture of surfactants and a perfluoroacrylate emulsion, pH 6.0 to 6.5, signal word Warning. It states the product may be harmful if swallowed or in contact with skin and may be corrosive to eyes. Wear gloves and eye protection, avoid breathing spray mist and ventilate the room while spraying. It is not regulated for US transport (DOT).

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I apply it to damp or dry carpet?
Either. On damp carpet straight after cleaning, use the stronger 1:8 mix because the carpet already holds water. On dry carpet, use 1:17 and a heavier application rate.
Why a dedicated sprayer?
Residue from detergents or other chemicals in the sprayer can reduce protector performance. Keep a sprayer for protector only and flush it with water after use.
How long before the carpet can be used?
Tell the customer to let the carpet dry before using it. Drying time depends on application rate, airflow and conditions.
What if I get it on timber floors or skirting?
Wipe it off before it dries.
Does it contain fluorochemicals?
Yes. The SDS lists a perfluoroacrylate emulsion. If a client or specification restricts fluorinated products, ask us before quoting.
