Space Spray is an industrial-strength odour counteractant effective in a wide variety of applications. Space Spray provides superior pet odour control and makes an excellent room freshener after carpet or upholstery cleaning.
Space Spray is a blend of evaporative control solvents and essential oils. The solvents are carefully selected to generate a vapour barrier that traps malodors on surfaces. The essential oils counteract those malodors that enter the air.
Three Ways to Use It
Space Spray is used in several different methods of application:
- Contact odour counteractant. In this mode, the product is applied directly to surfaces that are a source of odour. An example might be a smoke odour on a door panel.
- Injection odour counteractant. Space Spray is effective when injected into items that are contaminated with an odour. An example of this application is the padding of carpet that has pet urine.
- Odour counteractant additive. Space Spray also finds use as an additive to solvent-based cleaning solutions.
How to Apply
- Mist the affected area using a compression sprayer.
- For severe pet odours, inject into odour sources with a syringe.
Mist Contact Application
Lightly mist onto the contaminated area and brush in before and after cleaning (Legend Brands).
Wipe-On for Smoke Odour
For surfaces that have already been cleaned — such as the inside or back of unfinished wood furniture — apply a small amount to an absorbent cloth, tamp off the excess and wipe gently over the surface.
Injection for Pet Urine
Inject into the contaminated underlay, carpet backing or subfloor with a carpet syringe (replacement needle) or an injector such as the one used with ODORx Un-Duz-It.
Important — synthetic backings can swell. Excessive Space Spray can swell synthetic carpet backing. Inspect the backing and test first. To reduce the risk, Legend Brands dilute Space Spray with alcohol before injecting — but their two documents differ: the user guide says 1 part Space Spray to 3 parts rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol; the label says 1 part to 2–3 parts denatured alcohol. Both alcohols are flammable — keep ignition sources away.
As a Solvent-Cleaner Additive
Add 8 mL per litre of dry cleaning solvent to mask the solvent odour and add odour control. For severe odours double it, but do not exceed 16 mL per litre (Legend Brands' user guide).
Before You Use It
- Never fog it. Both the label and the user guide say Space Spray is not to be applied with a fogging device. For fogging, use a product labelled for it, such as ODORx Thermo-55 Cherry.
- It is solvent-based. Test every surface in an inconspicuous area first. Do not use it on surfaces that solvents damage.
- Careless use or overspray may stain.
- Overuse leaves a strong, long-lasting aroma. Use the least that does the job.
- Evacuate people and pets before use and ventilate well before they return.
- Fragrance can irritate people with allergic sensitivity. Legend Brands recommend a sniff test on a card, with the occupant's permission, before use.
Safety
The label on this page is Legend Brands' US label. It describes Space Spray as a combustible liquid, an eye and skin irritant and a potential skin sensitiser.
- Keep away from sources of ignition. No smoking. The flash point is about 47 °C.
- Wear rubber gloves and safety glasses with side shields (AS/NZS 1337.1). Legend Brands also say technicians should wear a respirator during use — in Australia, select to AS/NZS 1716 and AS/NZS 1715, for example a 3M 7500 series half-face respirator with 3M 60921 organic vapour/P100 cartridges.
- Label contents: highly refined petroleum distillates, plus (Cherry) petroleum distillate, monochlorotoluene and amyl acetate, with fragrance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Space Spray as a room freshener after cleaning?
Yes — lightly mist it as a finishing touch after carpet or upholstery cleaning. Keep it light; overuse lingers and can stain.
Can I put it in a fogger?
No. Legend Brands say never to apply Space Spray with a fogging device.
Will it damage carpet backing?
Too much can swell synthetic backings. Inspect and test first, and dilute with alcohol before injecting (see above).
Does it remove urine?
No. It counteracts odour. Urine contamination still needs to be cleaned, extracted or treated with a product designed for it; Space Spray deals with the odour that remains.
Are other scents available?
Legend Brands make Space Spray in several scents (their guide lists Mint, Kentucky Blue Grass, Cinnamon Spice, Citrus, Cedar and Leather), with different flash points — Mint is much lower at about 28 °C. CCW lists Cherry. Ask us if you need another scent.
