3M 60921 Organic Vapour/P100 Cartridge/Filter (1 Pair)

Regular price $109.10

The 3M 60921 is a combination cartridge and filter: an organic vapour cartridge with a P100 particulate filter attached, supplied as one pair. It fits 3M bayonet-style facepieces and is the cartridge CCW stocks for mould and fire remediation work, where crews face both airborne particulate and the solvent odours that come off cleaning chemicals, sealers and smoke-damaged materials.

Cartridges are consumables. The facepiece is bought once and maintained; these are replaced on a schedule. Facepiece sold separately.

Key points

  • Great for mould and fire remediation
  • P100 particulate filter - at least 99.97% filtration efficiency against solid and liquid aerosols, and rated oil-proof
  • Organic vapour relief
  • For use with 3M 5000, 6000, 7000 and 7500 series masks
  • Swept-back design for better comfort, visibility and balance
  • Supplied as one pair - a half mask takes two

What it protects against

Professional contractors looking for respiratory protection against certain organic vapours and particulates will appreciate these high-quality organic vapour cartridges and P100 cartridges and filters from 3M. They are approved by NIOSH and can be used for a variety of applications, including petrochemical and chemical processing, utilities, pharmaceuticals, mining and primary metals.

When properly fitted, these filters also provide respiratory protection from certain organic vapours as well as non-oil and oil particulates.

Biological particles

These cartridges and filters can help reduce inhalation exposures to certain airborne biological particles (for example mould, Bacillus anthracis, Avian Influenza Viruses, Mycobacterium tuberculosis) but cannot eliminate the risk of contracting infection, illness or disease.

Important - approvals and Australian sites

The 60921 is a NIOSH-approved cartridge. NIOSH is the United States approval scheme, and P100 is a NIOSH filter class. Australian and New Zealand respiratory protection is classified under AS/NZS 1716 using P1, P2 and P3 particulate classes and letter codes for gases and vapours, and AS/NZS 1715 governs how respiratory protective equipment is selected, used and maintained.

CCW has not been able to verify an AS/NZS 1716 licence for this specific 3M part number. If your site, principal contractor, insurer or safety management system requires AS/NZS 1716 approved filters, confirm that before ordering. We would rather have that conversation now than after the cartridges arrive. Ring us and we will tell you what we know and what we do not.

Fitting and compatibility

The 60921 uses the 3M bayonet connection. It fits the 3M 5000, 6000, 6500 and 7500 series facepieces, including the three sizes of 7500 half mask CCW stocks:

Important: cartridges are not interchangeable between brands. CCW also stocks the North 7580P100 Particulate Cartridge, which fits Honeywell North facepieces and will not fit a 3M mask. Check which brand of facepiece your crew is wearing before you order, and note that the North cartridge is particulate only - it offers no organic vapour protection.

Service life and replacement

There is no single service life figure for an organic vapour cartridge. It depends on the contaminant, its concentration, humidity, temperature, breathing rate and how long the cartridge has been in use. 3M publishes a service life software tool for this purpose. As a practical rule on a job:

  • Replace the cartridge if you smell or taste the contaminant, or if it irritates you.
  • Replace the filter if breathing becomes noticeably harder - that is loading, and it will not improve.
  • Replace after any exposure to a heavy or unknown contaminant rather than saving it for the next day.
  • Store unused cartridges sealed in the original packaging, away from the contaminated area. A cartridge left open in the back of a ute is already partly used.

Frequently asked questions

How many do I need?

A half mask takes two cartridges, so one pack fits one mask. If you are running a crew of three on a mould job, that is three packs, plus spares.

Will these fit my 3M mask?

If it is a 3M 5000, 6000, 6500 or 7500 series facepiece with the bayonet connection, yes. If it is another brand, no. Cartridge approvals only apply to the complete assembly from one manufacturer.

Are these suitable for mould remediation?

The P100 filter handles the particulate side, including mould spores, and the organic vapour cartridge handles solvent odours from biocides, sealers and cleaning chemicals. That combination is why this is the cartridge CCW stocks for remediation crews. It does not remove the need for a fit-tested mask, correct site controls and a documented respiratory protection program.

Can I wash or reuse them?

No. Cartridges and filters are not washable. Water ruins the filter media and the carbon bed. Wipe down the facepiece, replace the cartridges.

How do I know when to change them?

Smell, taste, irritation or increased breathing resistance are all signals to change immediately. Beyond that, work to a change schedule set by your safety management system rather than waiting for a warning.

What is the difference between P100 and P3?

They are particulate filter classes from two different schemes. P100 is the NIOSH class used in the United States. P3 is the highest particulate class under AS/NZS 1716 in Australia and New Zealand. They are not the same certification and one does not automatically satisfy the other.
