Encap-Clean DS2 is a unique low moisture encapsulation carpet detergent for high-production commercial carpet care. It is made in the USA by ReleasIt and supplied by CCW in a 5 litre concentrate (CESRELDS005).
Encap-Clean DS2 has set the standard in the industry for high-production encap cleaning, in ReleasIt's words. It is highly concentrated and cost-effective, powers through heavy soil build-ups, and leaves the carpet more soil-resistant.
What It Is For
Encap-Clean DS2 is a maintenance detergent for synthetic commercial carpet: offices, corridors, retail and education sites where the carpet has to be back in use quickly. You apply the diluted solution, scrub it in with a machine or pad, and let it dry. As it dries, the detergent forms a brittle crystal around the loosened soil, and routine vacuuming removes it. No rinse is required.
It is not a restorative clean. Encap cleaning keeps a carpet on a maintenance schedule between hot water extraction cleans. Heavily soiled, greasy or long-neglected carpet usually needs extraction first.

There are four benefits to incorporating a fluorochemical:
- It helps the encapsulating crystal release more easily from the fibre.
- It also lowers the surface tension of the detergent and thereby increases wetting and cleaning ability.
- It provides great anti-wicking properties.
- It will leave the carpet more soil-resistant.

Dilution Rate
- 150ml per 4 litres (safe for most wool and all synthetic carpet fibre)
- Cleans approximately 30 metres per 4 litres of diluted RTU solution.
The 30 metres is square metres of carpet. It agrees with ReleasIt's US figure of about 300 sq ft per ready-to-use US gallon (roughly 29 m² per 4 L).
ReleasIt's US directions give slightly different rates. Both are shown so you can choose; they are not averaged.

How Safe Is Releasit Encap-Clean DS2?
- Encap-Clean DS2 is very safe to use. The only ingredient that's even required to be listed on an SDS sheet is Isopropyl Alcohol (and that evaporates away).
- Encap-Clean DS2 has a near-neutral pH in its diluted form. So Encap-Clean DS2 is safe to use for cleaning synthetic fibre, most wool, and any other fibre that can be exposed to water.
Handle the concentrate with normal care. ReleasIt's safety data sheet (US format, revised May 2024) classifies it as Warning, H319: causes serious eye irritation. It lists isopropyl alcohol below 4% and a concentrate pH of 9.5 ± 0.5. Wear eye protection and gloves when mixing, keep it away from heat and flames, and rinse skin or eyes with plenty of water after contact. The SDS lists it as not regulated for transport.
The SDS on file is a US document. Where Australian workplace requirements differ, they take precedence.
Wool
CCW's rate is described as safe for most wool. ReleasIt's US listing says colourfast wool. Test wool, wool blends and any carpet of unknown colour fastness in an inconspicuous area before you clean.

Getting a Good Result
- Vacuum thoroughly first. Dry soil removed now is soil the crystal does not have to hold.
- Mix to the rate above with warm water.
- Apply evenly. Do not flood the carpet — encap is a low moisture method.
- Scrub with overlapping passes using a Cimex, CRB, orbital or rotary machine, or a bonnet/pad system.
- Let the carpet dry fully, then vacuum. Vacuuming at the next scheduled interval removes the crystallised residue.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to rinse or extract after using DS2?
No. Encap-Clean DS2 dries to a crystallised residue that is removed by vacuuming. If the carpet is also on an extraction schedule, DS2 does not need to be rinsed out before you encap between those cleans.
How much carpet will a 5 litre drum clean?
At 150 mL per 4 L, 5 litres of concentrate makes roughly 133 L of solution. At about 30 m² per 4 L, that is in the order of 1,000 m². Actual coverage depends on the carpet, soil load and how much solution you apply.
Can I use it on wool?
CCW describes the rate as safe for most wool; ReleasIt's US listing says colourfast wool. Always test first.
Can I use it in a bonnet system?
Yes. Encap bonnet/pad cleaning is one of the listed applications. Pads and bonnets are in the Floor Pads and Carpet Bonnets collections.
Is it hazardous?
The US SDS classifies the concentrate as an eye irritant (Warning, H319). Wear eye protection when mixing. It is listed as not regulated for transport.
