It's now possible to clean stairs with the FiberPlus pads.

The Drill-Driver 8" pad driver attaches to any drill. Deep scrubbing is now easy with the Drill-Driver / FiberPlus combination.

This makes a quick and simple method for encap scrubbing on stairs even commercial upholstery. The Drill-Driver and FiberPlus pads can also be used for powder polishing marble.

What It Is For

The Rota Drill 8 Inch Encap Pad Driver is a flat 8 inch (20 cm) driver plate that turns a drill into a small encap scrubber. It holds an 8 inch pad or bonnet — the same size as the Cimex and other 8 inch encap heads — so you can scrub the areas a floor machine cannot reach: stair treads and risers, landings, edges, and commercial upholstery.

CCW lists it under ReleasIt, the maker of the Encap-Clean range. The US supplier Excellent Supply sells what appears to be the same driver as the 8" Bonnet/Pad Drill Driver; the speed and pad guidance below comes from that listing.

Drill Requirements

Please Note: You will need to use a good drill with a side handle as you see in this photo. Using the drill driver on a drill without a side handle will cause the pad to hop on the carpet. We recommend getting a good drill since you'll be putting a good amount of torque on the drill. An angle grinder is another option for using the Drill Driver.

  • Recommended speed: 400–700 rpm. Do not exceed 2,000 rpm (US supplier guidance).
  • Run the drill forward (clockwise).
  • Use a variable-speed drill with an auxiliary side handle so you can control torque and downforce.
  • If you use an angle grinder, it must have speed control that can run at or below the limit above. A standard fixed-speed grinder runs far faster than 2,000 rpm and must not be used.

Pads It Suits

The driver accepts standard 8 inch bonnet pads, microfibre pads and FiberPlus encapsulation pads (US supplier listing). CCW stocks:

Operating Advice

  1. Pre-spray the area with your encap solution, for example Encap-Clean DS2 or Encap-HydrOx.
  2. Centre the pad on the driver so it runs true.
  3. Start at low speed with the pad already on the surface, then bring the speed up.
  4. Let the pad do the work. Heavy downforce makes the pad grab and hop.
  5. On stairs, work the tread first, then the riser and nosing.
  6. Test upholstery in an inconspicuous area first. Use the softer beige pad or a microfibre bonnet, not the MAX pad.
  7. Turn or change the pad when it is loaded with soil.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work with any drill?

It attaches to any drill, but it needs a good drill with a side handle. Without a side handle the pad hops on the carpet and the torque is hard to control.

Can I use it on an angle grinder?

CCW lists an angle grinder as an option. Only use a grinder with speed control that can run within 400–700 rpm; never exceed 2,000 rpm. Ask us to confirm the fitting before you buy for a grinder.

Which pad should I use on stairs?

The FiberPlus beige pad suits most carpet. The MAX pad is for dense commercial loop carpet only. A microfibre bonnet is the gentler option on upholstery.

Can it polish stone?

CCW's listing says the driver with FiberPlus pads can be used for powder polishing marble. No stone polishing powder is listed with it — ask us what you are working on.
