Overview
Electric clutch shaft for the HydraMaster CDS clutch drive system. HydraMaster part number 000-150-009, listed in the parts manual as Shaft, Electric Clutch – CDS.
The shaft carries the electric clutch that drives the machine off the vehicle engine. It runs in two bearings and is keyed at both ends, so it is the part that wears when a clutch has been run with a worn bearing or a loose retaining screw.
Where it sits in the machine
It is item 7 of the CDS 4.6/4.8 front end assembly, in the Clutch Drive System section of the CDS owner's manual (page 7-53). One per machine.

Note the two Woodruff keys are different sizes — 5/32 inch and 3/16 inch. They are not interchangeable, and it is worth checking which one you have out before you order.
Workshop advice
Replace the two bearings (000-008-011) and the two snap rings (000-139-005) at the same time as the shaft. A shaft rarely fails on its own — by the time the shaft is marked, the bearings that let it move have already gone, and refitting a new shaft into old bearings puts you back where you started.
Check both keyways while the shaft is out. A rounded keyway on the clutch end is the usual reason a clutch slips on the shaft rather than the belt slipping on the pulley, and it is easy to misdiagnose as a clutch fault.
Check the retaining screw torque on reassembly. A loose 5/16" retaining screw lets the clutch work on the shaft, and that is what chews the keyway in the first place.
Which CDS does this fit?
Verified against the HydraMaster CDS owner's manual, where it appears in the CDS 4.6/4.8 front end assembly parts list.
We have not verified it against the CDS 4.2 and 4.7. Those machines are covered by a separate, much older manual (1996–1998) which we hold as a scanned document that does not search reliably. Rather than assume the shaft carried across unchanged, we would rather you asked. Send us the model and the serial number from the machine plate and we will confirm before you order.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need the bearings as well?
Almost always, yes. See the workshop advice above — fitting a new shaft into worn bearings is a short-lived repair.
Are the two keys the same?
No. One is 5/32 inch and the other 3/16 inch. Check before ordering.
Is the clutch supplied with the shaft?
No. The clutch assembly is a separate part number (000-036-003). This listing is the shaft alone.
The clutch slips — is the shaft the problem?
It can be. If the belt is in good order and correctly tensioned, a rounded keyway on the clutch end of the shaft will let the clutch turn on the shaft instead of driving it. Pull the clutch and look at the keyway before condemning the clutch.
