Check the meter generation
This is the MMS2 cover. Older yellow-bodied meters — SurveyMaster, TimberMaster, Mini, Aquant — take the BLD2000BAT cover instead.
Why it matters on a survey instrument
The MMS2 is the meter whose readings go into a report. A loose battery contact produces an intermittent shutdown mid-survey, and site dust in an open compartment produces corrosion that gets worse quietly. Neither announces itself as a fault with the readings.
