Pro's Choice Red Relief is a two-part heat-transfer spotter for synthetic red food dye stains in carpet and upholstery, such as cordial, fruit punch and sports drinks. Pro's Choice call it a red dye remover. Mix Part A and Part B in equal amounts to make 946 mL of ready-to-use solution. It is made in the USA by Chemical Technologies International (CTI).
Wool needs its own kit. Red Relief for Wool is a separate three-part kit, and Pro's Choice give a different method for it that does not use a steam iron.
Why Technicians Use It
- Results: Pro's Choice say it gets all the red out every time, and invite you to compare it with any other heat-release product.
- Safety on the fibre: Pro's Choice state it is safe on carpets and fabrics where other products would discolour or bleach the item. They also say it works at a lower temperature and still gives a better result.
- Economical: Red Relief is a two-part product that activates on mixing. Pro's Choice say you will use less product than with competing brands.
How Heat-Transfer Dye Removal Works
Red food dyes attach to nylon much as the carpet's own dye does, so general-purpose spotters rarely shift them. Heat-transfer removers use gentle steam heat to drive the reaction in the fibre. The damp towel over the spot then draws the released dye up and out. That is why the method depends on a damp white towel, low steam and frequent checking, not on more product or more heat.

Directions
Red Relief is a two-part product. Mix equal parts of solution A and solution B to make a ready-to-use solution.
- Clean the stained area using hot water extraction.
- Blot dry with a clean white towel to remove excess moisture from the carpet.
- Mix Red Relief parts A and B in equal parts.
- Use a trigger sprayer to wet the stained fibres with the Red Relief mixture.
- Cover the spot with a moderately wet terry towel, with the excess water squeezed out. A folded lightweight cleaning towel works well.
- Apply steam heat from an iron set at its lowest steam temperature.
- Check the stain every 30 seconds.
- Once the stain has turned light yellow or disappeared completely, remove the heat and the towel.
- Extraction rinse to remove the chemical residue.
Getting a Good Result
- Test for colourfastness in an inconspicuous area before you treat the stain.
- Use the lowest steam setting and check every 30 seconds. More heat is not better: it risks the fibre and the carpet's own colour.
- Use a white terry towel so you can see the dye transferring, and so no colour comes off the towel.
- Stop when the stain has cleared or turned light yellow. Do not keep applying heat after that.
- Mix only what you need for the job. Pro's Choice do not say how long the mixed solution stays active.
- Always finish with an extraction rinse. Spotter residue left in the pile attracts soil.
Safety
Read the safety data sheet before use. The SDS on file is Chemical Technologies International's US edition (February 2023), with separate sheets for Part A and Part B. Where Australian classification, transport or disposal requirements differ, the Australian requirements take precedence. Wear eye protection and gloves when mixing and applying. Keep the mixed solution in a labelled trigger bottle, and do not mix it with other chemicals.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Red Relief on wool?
Use Red Relief for Wool instead. It is a separate kit with a CSS colour stabiliser and souring agent, and Pro's Choice's wool method does not use a steam iron.
How much does one kit make?
946 mL of ready-to-use solution: one 473 mL Part A mixed with one 473 mL Part B.
Will it remove any red stain?
No. It is made for synthetic food dyes such as cordial, fruit punch and sports drinks. Blood is a protein stain, so use a protein spotter such as Bridgepoint Protein Spotter. Coffee and tea respond to a tannin remover such as Bridgepoint Coffee Stain Remover.
The stain has gone light yellow. Is that finished?
The directions treat light yellow as the stopping point. Remove the heat and the towel, then extraction rinse.
Is there an alternative in the CCW range?
Yes. Bridgepoint Red Zone Ready is a neutral-pH red dye remover. Pick the product whose method suits the job and the fibre.
