"Results in 15 seconds" is the SystemSURE Plus and EnSURE read time; the EnSURE Touch reads in about 10 seconds (Hygiena UltraSnap instructions).
What ATP Testing Tells You
ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is present in all living cells and in the organic residue they leave behind. An UltraSnap reading, in relative light units (RLU), measures that residue — food soil, body fluids, biofilm. It does not identify organisms and it is not a microbial count. Use it to verify that cleaning removed the soil, which is the step disinfection depends on.

How to Use It
Summary of Hygiena's UltraSnap instructions (INS-US2020 Rev B). Follow the sheet in the box.
- Let the device reach 21–25 °C before testing. A swab straight from the fridge reads low.
- Twist and pull the swab out of the tube. Do not touch the tip or the inside of the tube.
- Swab a 10 × 10 cm area in a criss-cross pattern, rotating the swab as you go. On irregular surfaces, keep the technique the same every time.
- Return the swab to the tube. Bend the Snap-Valve bulb to break it and squeeze twice to release the liquid.
- Shake for 5–10 seconds.
- Insert into the luminometer within 30 seconds of activation, close the lid and start the reading.
Getting Results You Can Rely On
- Set your own limits. There is no universal RLU figure that means "clean". Build pass and fail limits from surfaces you know are properly cleaned.
- Test before sanitising. Sanitiser still wet on the surface can suppress the reading.
- Hard surfaces. UltraSnap is a surface swab; for water and rinse water use AquaSnap Total. For lower residue levels, SuperSnap is Hygiena's higher-sensitivity swab.
- One use only. Write the location on the label so readings can be traced back.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store at 2–8 °C, away from direct sunlight. Hygiena allows up to 4 weeks at room temperature before use. Do not use past the expiry date on the pack.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it need a meter?
Yes — a Hygiena luminometer. For tests read by eye, see PRO-Clean (protein) or SpotCheck Plus (sugars).
Can it detect mould or bacteria?
No. It measures ATP from organic residue generally. It is a cleaning verification test, not a microbiological test.
Can I leave them in the van?
Hygiena allows up to 4 weeks at room temperature. A van in an Australian summer runs well above room temperature — keep them in a cooler and return them to the fridge.
Can I use them on carpet or upholstery?
UltraSnap is designed for hard surfaces. On textiles both the sampling and the interpretation change — talk to us before you build a procedure around it.
