The filter bag sits in the recovery side of the machine and stops solids reaching the vacuum motors. It is a small, inexpensive part protecting the most expensive routine repair on a portable.

The filter bag keeps solids out of the vacuum motor. Running a portable without one, or with a torn one, is how a vacuum motor gets ruined — and vacuum motors are the most expensive routine failure on a portable.
Rinse it out at the end of the day rather than at the start of the next job. A bag that dries dirty stays dirty and restricts airflow even when it looks clear.
When to replace it
- Any tear, hole or split seam — a damaged bag lets through exactly what it is there to stop.
- Fabric that stays clogged or stiff after rinsing.
- A D-ring or fitting that no longer holds the bag securely in place.
Keep a spare in the van. A bag that fails mid-job leaves the choice between stopping and running the motors unprotected.

Do not. Solids and fibre go straight to the vacuum motors. Note that the Razorback warranty does not cover water or foam ingress damage to vacuum motors either.
