Skidders are a moving aid. They are not a moisture barrier and they are not what goes under a leg when the furniture is put back on damp carpet.
Pads, Blocks or Skidders — Three Different Jobs
These are routinely bought in place of one another. They do not do the same thing.

Pads and blocks protect. Skidders move. Using a skidder as a moisture barrier will not work, and standing a wet leg on a pad you meant to lift it with will not either.
Why They Are Worth Carrying
Moving heavy furniture is where technicians get hurt and where floors get damaged. A skidder lets one person move a piece that would otherwise need two, without lifting and without dragging a leg across carpet or timber.
Dragging is the specific risk: a castor or a metal ferrule pulled across a carpet can snag and pull loops, and across a timber floor it scores.

Operating Advice
- Get all four legs onto skidders before pushing. Three on and one off is how a leg digs in and how a floor gets scored.
- Push, do not pull. Pushing keeps the load over the skidders.
- Check for grit underneath before sliding across a hard floor. A skidder with a stone under it is a scratch tool.
- Take them out from under before the furniture is put back for the last time, and replace them with a pad or a block if the carpet is still damp.
