High density polystyrene foam blocks for placing under furniture legs on freshly cleaned carpet. Unlike a flat pad, a block lifts the leg clear of the pile, so the leg is out of the damp and air can move underneath it.
Supplied as a box of 1,008 blocks, 2 x 2 inches and 1 inch thick, which detach individually rather than needing to be peeled apart.
Pads, Blocks or Skidders — Three Different Jobs
These are routinely bought in place of one another. They do not do the same thing.

Pads and blocks protect. Skidders move. Using a skidder as a moisture barrier will not work, and standing a wet leg on a pad you meant to lift it with will not either.
Why It Matters More Than It Looks
Furniture put back onto damp carpet is the most common avoidable damage claim in carpet cleaning. Timber legs wick moisture and lift their finish, metal ferrules rust and mark, and a stained castor leaves a ring that appears days later — long after you have left, and squarely attributed to you.
The barrier costs a few cents. The claim costs a callback, a repair and a customer.
Why Height Helps
A flat pad separates the leg from the carpet. A block does that and adds an inch of clearance, which matters in two situations:
- Heavier furniture, where the weight would press a thin pad into wet pile and put the leg back in contact with the moisture.
- Drying, where air moving under and around the leg dries the carpet beneath it. That patch is otherwise the last part of the room to dry and the first to show a mark.

Hydro-Force does not publish a load rating for these blocks. Rather than estimate one, we have left it out — for genuinely heavy items, use more than one block per leg or spread the load with a board.
Operating Advice
- Place them as furniture goes back, and leave them until the carpet is dry.
- Under every leg, not just the ones that look vulnerable.
- For very heavy items, double up or spread the load rather than relying on one block.
- Tell the customer they are there and can be discarded once the carpet is dry.

Blocks or plastic pads?

Will they crush under a heavy piece?
High density foam holds up under normal furniture. For genuinely heavy items, double up or spread the load.
Are they reusable?
They are a consumable, and at just over a thousand to a box they are treated as disposable.
Do they mark carpet?
No, but anything left under a leg for weeks leaves an impression in the pile. Tell the customer to remove them once the carpet is dry.
How many do I need per job?
Four per item of furniture, so a full house goes through more than most people expect.

What We See in the Field
Blocks get used on the pieces that matter and pads on everything else, which is the sensible split. The mistake is putting anything under a leg before the furniture is moved back — the barrier only works if it is between the leg and the damp carpet, not sitting beside it.
