The Model L722-S Lumber Stack Probe Sensor, coupled with the Wagner L622 Digital Recording Moisture Meter, makes it easy to reach deep into stickered units of lumber and take accurate moisture readings without the danger of broken pins. Wagner's electromagnetic wave technology makes it possible to take multiple readings throughout an entire stack in just minutes.
The L722-S, an attachment for the L622 hand meter, is built rugged and able to take accurate moisture readings inside the heated kiln, even when in-kiln temperatures heat lumber to 93 °C (200 °F) or more. It can also be used to check moisture content when lumber has been removed from the kiln and put into storage before the wood is planed.
The combination of the L622 hand meter and the L722 stack probe sensor lets the user store readings taken either inside or outside the kiln and download the information into reports. The information can then be used to help a mill improve its moisture content quality control procedures.
Important: Which Meter Does It Work With?
CCW's text pairs the L722 with the Wagner L622 Digital Recording Moisture Meter, and that is how the L722 has been used for years. Wagner has since replaced the L622 with the L5300, and Wagner's current L722 listing states the probe is designed to work exclusively with the L5300. Both statements are shown here because CCW has not yet confirmed which L722 generation it supplies. Tell us which meter you own (L622 or L5300) and we will confirm compatibility before you order.

Stat Pak Software
Every L622 Digital Recording Moisture Meter comes with Stat Pak, a PC-compatible software package that greatly expands the record-keeping and report-generating capabilities of the L622. It lets users create custom species lists and archive L622 data on a PC hard drive for long-term storage, retrieval and reporting.
With Stat Pak you can quickly select the type of report to generate. Three types are available: Group Reports, Multiple Group Reports and Group Readings Reports. All include statistical summaries, average moisture content, number of readings taken, standard deviation, and the high and low moisture readings. (Wagner lists WoodStat Pro software with the L5300.)

Operating Advice
- Choose the probe length for the depth of your stickered units: the long probe reaches 102.9 cm (40.5 in), the short 70.49 cm (27.75 in).
- Check that your sticker thickness is within 12.7–22.9 mm (0.5–0.9 in) before buying. The extrusion and sensor head are 12.7 mm (0.5 in) thick and must pass between the courses.
- Keep the leaf springs in good condition; they hold the sensor against the board. Worn or bent springs mean poor contact and low readings. Replacement springs are in the L722 spare parts kit.
- Take multiple readings through the stack; the aim is to find the wettest boards, not a single average.
- Verify the system with the Wagner Calibration Verification Block after any impact.

Long or short probe?

Can it be used inside a hot kiln?
Yes. Wagner states it reads accurately with in-kiln lumber temperatures of 93 °C (200 °F) or more. It can also check stock removed from the kiln and stored before planing.
