SpeedClean battery charger, 12 V 3 A, for the CoilJet CJ125
Replacement smart charger for the 12 V sealed lead acid battery in the SpeedClean CoilJet CJ-125 portable coil cleaner, supplied with an Australian plug. SpeedClean lists the CoilJet charger as part CJ2-24.
What it does
SpeedClean describes the CoilJet charger as a smart charger: it charges the battery and then switches to a maintain (trickle) mode once the battery is full, so it will not overcharge it. That is why SpeedClean's advice is to leave the battery on the charger between jobs and through the off-season.
- Charge time from flat: about 4 hours (SpeedClean manual; SpeedClean's support page says 3.5 to 4 hours).
- Red light: charging.
- Green light: fully charged, now maintaining.
- Flashing red: a fault with the charger (SpeedClean support page).

Use the right charger
A sealed lead acid battery needs a charger with the correct voltage profile and a proper float stage. A generic charger that holds full voltage indefinitely will boil the electrolyte out of a sealed battery, and a sealed battery cannot be topped up. The battery then fails quietly, some weeks later, and looks like a battery fault rather than a charging one.
The battery itself is the sealed lead acid battery.
Charging routine
- Turn the CoilJet power switch off before connecting the charger (SpeedClean manual).
- Do not run the unit while it is connected to the charger.
- Charge after every use. SpeedClean warns that leaving a sealed lead acid battery discharged can damage it permanently.
- For storage, put the machine away fully charged and keep it on the charger. SpeedClean's manual says to connect it at least once a month; its support page recommends leaving it connected.
- Keep the charger dry and do not handle it with wet hands.
Is it the charger or the battery?
SpeedClean's support page gives a simple test that settles most arguments before anything is ordered:
- Charger: plug it into a working wall socket, not into the CoilJet, and measure the output with a voltmeter. A good charger reads 12 to 14 V. Below that, or a flashing red light, means the charger needs replacing.
- Battery: remove it, disconnect the leads and measure it. A fully charged battery should read 11 to 14 V. Under 11 V it needs recharging, and a battery that will not come back up after a full charge needs replacing.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a full charge take?
About 4 hours from flat, according to SpeedClean. A full battery gives up to 1 hour of continuous spraying, or several hours of the stop-start use typical of coil cleaning (SpeedClean manual).
Can I leave the charger connected all the time?
Yes. SpeedClean designs it to switch to a maintain charge once the battery is full, and recommends leaving it connected during storage.
Can I use a generic 12 V battery charger instead?
SpeedClean's manual says to use only the supplied charger. A charger without a proper float stage can overcharge and permanently damage a sealed lead acid battery.
I have fitted the Giantz AGM replacement battery. Does this charger suit it?
SpeedClean does not publish charging data for other batteries. Check with us before relying on it with the Giantz 12 V 15 Ah AGM alternative.
Is there a vehicle charger?
SpeedClean lists a 12 V vehicle adapter for the charger (part 8944) as an optional accessory. CCW does not list it online; ask us if you need one.
