ODORx Thermo-55™ Cherry is a powerful heat-activated odour counteractant for thermal fogging.

Utilising a blend of highly purified petroleum solvents and odour-controlling essential oils, Thermo-55 creates a vapour barrier that prevents malodours from finding their way into the living environment.

Solvent-based and available in a wide range of pleasant scents, Thermo-55 is especially effective for controlling odours associated with structural fires. It is also highly effective for tobacco-related odour removal.

Legend Brands' user guide matches the Cherry scent to smoke from natural materials such as wood and paper. It is used full strength, never diluted, and only in a thermal fogging device.

Choosing a Thermo-55 Scent

Thermo-55 is available in a variety of scents formulated to combat specific smoke odours. Choose your primary smoke odour source from the list below to locate the best product for your smoke remediation project:

• Protein: Citrus
• Synthetic: Kentucky Blue Grass
• Natural: Kentucky Blue Grass/Cherry
• Tobacco: Tabac-Attack

Legend Brands' Thermo-55 user guide (Rev D) matches Cherry or Neutral to smoke from wood and paper, Kentucky Blue Grass to smoke from synthetics such as plastic and rubber, Citrus to protein fires, and Tabac-Attack to tobacco or cannabis smoke. It does not list Kentucky Blue Grass for natural-material smoke. If a fire involved mostly timber, paper and natural fibres, Cherry is the scent the manufacturer names. Neutral is not currently listed by CCW.

Important: Thermal Foggers Only

The label reads: "Do not dilute – apply with thermal fogging device only". A thermal fogger uses heat to turn the liquid into a very fine, dry fog that stays airborne and reaches cracks, voids and porous surfaces, following the same path the smoke took.

• Do not put Thermo-55 in a ULV (cold) fogger or a pump sprayer. The ULV foggers CCW sells, such as the Air-Care Max ULV Fogger and the B&G Flex-A-Lite 2600, are not thermal foggers.
• Legend Brands' guide says not to use Thermo-55 with the Electro-Gen 2000 or Electro-Gen 2000C thermal fogger. It names the Thermo-Gen and Electro-Gen units as suitable thermal foggers; follow your own fogger's instructions for solvent-based products.
• The label says Thermo-55 is not recommended for use in ventilating systems.
• CCW does not currently list a thermal fogger online. Ask us before ordering if you need one.

Where It Fits: the Three-Step Odour Removal Process

Thermo-55 is the last step of Legend Brands' Proven Three-Step Odour Removal Process (CCW's earlier text calls this the Guaranteed Odour Removal System). Fogging treats the odour that remains after cleaning. It does not replace removing soot, residue and damaged materials.

1. Suppression spray. Apply an odour counteractant such as ODORx 9-D-9 or ODORx Double-O with a compression sprayer so it contacts every surface that could be an odour source. For tobacco or cannabis odours use ODORx Tabac-Attack in this step.
2. Odour counteractant and absorbent. The guide specifies Crystal Odor Counteractant (C.O.C.) at 120 mL per 20 m² of floor area. CCW does not list C.O.C.; ask us.
3. Thermal fogging. Apply Thermo-55 with a thermal fogger, then ventilate thoroughly before re-occupancy.

For smoke odour in charred wood, attic insulation and wall or ceiling voids, the guide gives this suppression mixture: 4 L of Unsoot Encapsulant, 0.95 L of 9-D-9 and 150 mL of Last Resort, made up to 20 L with water and applied with a low-pressure sprayer. It covers about 49 m² per 4 L.

Use Instructions

• Thermo-55 is designed for use with thermal fogging devices only.
• Mixing: Do not dilute. Use full strength.
• Application: Apply using a thermal fogger at a rate of 0.5–1.5 ounces per thousand cubic feet (15–45 mL per 28 m³).
• For best results, use Thermo-55 as part of the Guaranteed Odour Removal System.

Fogging procedure (from the label and user guide)

1. Survey the site for sensitive individuals and take special precautions to minimise their exposure.
2. Check the fogger is in good working order. Measure the room volume (length × width × height) so you know how much Thermo-55 you need.
3. Turn off pilot lights and eliminate every ignition source, including sparking electrical equipment.
4. Evacuate people and pets. Post "Do Not Enter" signs.
5. Remove or protect food and utensils. The guide advises that food in sealed glass or metal can be cleaned afterwards, but food in paper, thin plastic or cardboard may take up the taste of the fog and should be disposed of.
6. Cover materials that can be affected by petroleum distillates. Keep the liquid off plastic, painted and varnished surfaces.
7. Issue respirators to the application crew.
8. Best results are achieved above 12.8 °C (55 °F).
9. Fog at the rate below.
10. Keep doors and windows closed for 30 minutes after fogging.
11. Ventilate for at least 60 minutes before anyone re-enters or re-occupies the area.

How Much to Use

The user guide gives 0.5–1.5 fl oz per 1,000 ft³ (15–45 mL per 28 m³). The label gives a single figure of 1 oz per 1,000 ft³ (30 mL per 28 m³), which sits in the middle of that range. In metric:

Example: a 5 m × 4 m room with a 2.4 m ceiling is 48 m³, so about 50 mL at the label rate. At the label rate a 3.8 L bottle treats roughly 3,600 m³ of airspace. Start at the label rate and increase towards the upper figure for heavier odour.

Safety

The SDS on this page is Legend Brands' US GHS SDS for product 115970, dated 5 July 2023. An Australian-format SDS is not yet on file. Read the SDS and label before use. Restricted to professional users.

• Signal word: Danger. Aspiration hazard Category 1 (may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways) and flammable liquid Category 4 (combustible liquid). The 2025 US label for Cherry (108729 I) also states "May cause an allergic skin reaction"; the July 2023 SDS does not list skin sensitisation. Treat it as a skin sensitiser until an updated SDS is on file.
• Declared ingredients: Hydrotreated light petroleum distillates (75–100%), benzaldehyde (2.5–10%) and amyl acetate (1.0–2.5%).
• Do not swallow. If swallowed, call a Poisons Information Centre (13 11 26) or a doctor immediately and do not induce vomiting — the product can be drawn into the lungs.
• Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames and hot surfaces. No smoking. Remember the fogger itself is a heat source.
• Wear gloves, protective clothing and eye and face protection (AS/NZS 1337.1). The guide calls for respirators for the application crew; select to AS/NZS 1716 and AS/NZS 1715 — for example a 3M 7500 series half-face respirator with 3M 60921 organic vapour/P100 cartridges.
• Wipe up any spills. Wash hands after handling.
• Store locked up, in a cool, well-ventilated place.
• Transport: flash point 68 °C, a combustible liquid rather than a Class 3 flammable liquid. The SDS lists it as not regulated for road, sea or air transport.

Can I use Thermo-55 in a ULV fogger?

No. The label says thermal fogging device only. Thermo-55 is solvent based and made to be vaporised by heat. For ULV fogging use a water-based product made for it, such as ODORx Liqui-Zone, following its own directions.

Which scent should I buy?

Match the scent to what burnt: Citrus for protein fires, Kentucky Blue Grass for synthetics, Cherry for wood and paper, Tabac-Attack for tobacco or cannabis smoke. This page is Cherry. The other scents are Citrus, Kentucky Blue Grass, Tabac-Attack.

How much do I need for a house?

Work out the total airspace in cubic metres and allow about 1 mL per m³ at the label rate. A 150 m² single-storey house with 2.4 m ceilings is about 360 m³, so roughly 380 mL. The 3.8 L bottle covers about ten houses of that size at that rate.

Will fogging fix the smell on its own?

No. Legend Brands places thermal fogging as the final step, after odour sources are cleaned or removed and a suppression spray has been applied. Fogging over soot and residue that is still there gives a short-lived result.

How long before people can go back in?

Keep the area closed for 30 minutes after fogging, then ventilate for at least 60 minutes before re-entry or re-occupancy. Allow longer for occupants with sensitivities.

Will it damage contents?

Keep the liquid off plastic, painted and varnished surfaces, and cover materials that petroleum distillates can affect. Remove or protect food and utensils. Wipe up any spills straight away.
