Last Resort Plus is a potent, effective odour control additive. Last Resort Plus consists of highly concentrated solvents and odour control essential oils that overcome the most obnoxious odours. Last Resort, as the name implies, is recommended for use as an odour control booster in heavy or severe situations. Last Resort Plus is never used by itself: it is always used as an additive to another product. Last Resort Plus is never used undiluted and because it is so highly concentrated, it is important to use this product at no more than the recommended concentration rate.

Where It Is Used
Last Resort Plus is used in three primary applications:
- Severe odour such as death scene, skunk odours, and unusually strong pet or smoke. Both situations are similar in that the odours penetrate very easily, are extremely obnoxious and evoke a strong emotional response from building occupants.
- Initial suppression of heavy or severe smoke odour, especially odours originating from burnt plastics or rubber. When smoke odours are unusually strong and do not respond to milder treatment, Last Resort Plus is useful as an additive.
- Odour control pre-sealer. Last Resort Plus adds odour counteractant capability to Unsoot #1 Sealer when used to contain strong odours on fire or smoke damaged building materials.

- Additional products: Unsmoke® Unsoot™ #1 Encapsulant
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as specified in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
- Supplies: Empty 5-gallon pail, empty 1-gallon bottle, measuring cup, adequate supply of clean cloths and a plastic bag for the storage of soiled cloths, measuring cup
- Equipment: airless paint sprayer, pressure or compression sprayer
System Summary

1. Death Scene / Skunk / Severe Pet Odours
To prepare ready to use odour suppressing decontaminant for spray application, add the following to an empty gallon (4 L) container:
- Up to 1 ounce (30 mL) Last Resort Plus
- 8 ounces (240 mL) of Liqui-Zone
- Add enough warm tap water to make one gallon (4 L)
Use a pressure sprayer to apply this solution directly onto contaminated surfaces
Important
- Liqui-Zone is an oxidizer and may damage fabrics, fabric dyes, etc. Pretest all surfaces to check for compatibility before applying the treatment.
- Last Resort Plus is not a germicidal product. Items that have been contaminated with blood or body fluids must be cleaned and decontaminated according to the United States Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) Blood Borne Pathogen Standard.
- Anything that has contact with body fluids and cannot be properly decontaminated should be discarded.
In Australia, the US OSHA standard Legend Brands refer to does not apply directly — follow the WHS and infection-control requirements for your state and the procedure your client or insurer specifies for biohazard cleaning.
2. Heavy Smoke Odour Suppression
Initial odour suppression is the first step in the Unsmoke® 3-Step Odour Control System. Last Resort Plus can be used as an additive to ODORx 9D9, when attempting to suppress unusually heavy smoke odour.
Combine the following in an empty 1 gallon (4 L) container:
- 4 to 6 ounces (120 to 180 mL) 9-D-9
- Up to 1 ounce (30 mL) Last Resort Plus
- Add enough warm tap water to make one gallon (4 L)
Spray (not fog) liberally onto odour sources. Be sure that contaminated surfaces are wetted out by this solution
3. Deodorising Pre-Sealer
Slightly burned or charred surfaces that are still structurally sound and not requiring removal can remain a source of odour in the building. The use of a special pre-sealer controls these odours. To make 5 gallons (20 L) of deodorising pre-sealer, combine the following in an empty 5 gallon container
- 1 gallon (4 L) Unsoot #1 Encapsulant,
- 1 quart (0.95 L) of 9-D-9,
- Up to 5 ounces (150 mL) Last Resort Plus
- Add enough warm tap water to make five gallons (19 L).
This solution will cover 500 to 750 square feet per gallon (46 to 70 square meters per 4 L) when applied with commercial airless paint sprayer.
The current US label rounds the same coverage to 50–75 m² per 4 L; 500–750 sq ft converts to 46–70 m². Plan on the lower figures.
Using It With Liqui-Zone: Which Rate?
The older Liqui-Zone user guide calls for 2 ounces (60 mL) of the original Last Resort per 4 L. The current Last Resort Plus label and user guide say up to 1 ounce (30 mL). Last Resort Plus is ultra-concentrated — use the Last Resort Plus figure and do not exceed it.
Safety Considerations
- NOT FOR USE IN FOGGING UNITS
- IMPORTANT: The odour of this product, like any other common material with a fragrance may be irritating to some persons with allergic sensitivity. It is recommended to allow occupants to “sniff test” the product prior to application.
- For “sniff testing” prepare the ready-to-use solution and dip a note card or business card into the solution. Allow occupant to “sniff” both wet and dried solution. Obtain permission from occupants prior to product application.
- Individuals may reoccupy treated spaces when they feel physically comfortable and/or upon advice of their consulting physician.
- Evacuate treatment area of humans and pets and keep children and pets away from chemical products, equipment, and the work area. Thoroughly ventilate area prior to re-occupancy.
- Avoid contact with food and utensils.
- Not intended for use in HVAC systems.
- Cover delicate fabrics and materials.
- Issue proper respiratory equipment to personnel.
- Overuse may result in an objectionable, long-lasting aroma in the treatment area.
- Read the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) before using.
- Be sure electrical equipment including plugs and extension cords are in good condition.
- Thoroughly clean and rinse any surfaces where there has been a spill of the product
- Wash hands after handling the product

The SDS on this page is Legend Brands' US GHS SDS for product 109462, dated 5 August 2025. An Australian-format SDS is not yet on file.
- Signal word: Warning. Skin sensitiser Category 1 — may cause an allergic skin reaction. Wear gloves, protective clothing and eye protection (AS/NZS 1337.1).
- Declared ingredients include alpha-terpineol (2.5–10%), diphenyl ether, isoamyl acetate and sodium lauryl sulfate (each 1–2.5%).
- Not regulated for transport (DOT, IMDG, IATA).
- Respiratory protection where ventilation is inadequate — in Australia, select to AS/NZS 1716 and AS/NZS 1715, for example a 3M 7500 series half-face respirator with 3M 60921 organic vapour/P100 cartridges.
- The US label lists ethylene oxide among its contents and carries a California Proposition 65 warning. The SDS does not list it among the hazardous ingredients. Ask us if a client needs a formal statement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Last Resort Plus on its own?
No. It is always an additive — to Liqui-Zone for death scene, skunk and severe pet odours, to 9-D-9 for heavy smoke, or to Unsoot #1 as a deodorising pre-sealer.
Can I fog it?
No. Legend Brands' directions say it is not for use in fogging units and not for HVAC systems. Spray it onto odour sources.
How much do I add?
Up to 30 mL per 4 L of ready-to-use solution, or up to 150 mL in the 20 L pre-sealer. Start low; overuse leaves a strong aroma that can be harder to live with than the original odour.
Does it disinfect a death scene?
No. It is not germicidal. Clean and decontaminate body fluids first to the procedure that applies to the job, and discard what cannot be decontaminated. Last Resort Plus deals with the odour that remains.
Why the sniff test?
The fragrance can irritate people with allergic sensitivity. Let occupants smell the wet and dried solution on a card and get their permission before you apply it.
Is it dangerous goods?
No. The SDS lists it as not regulated for road, sea or air transport.
