When the nut is the fault, not the pin
If a new pin needle still works loose, or will not sit square, the ferrule is worn. A pin that moves makes intermittent contact, and intermittent contact reads low — the meter tells you the material is drier than it is. It is a cheap part to replace and an expensive one to ignore.
