Due to countless imported versions of this 12-inch, two-jet, S-bend classic wand, we are now offering two front-to-back width options to provide a fit that does not stress the glide and seals well along the bottom edge.
You can use a slide rule, a metric measuring tape or ruler, or digital callipers to determine what fit you need.
There are two “AW29” wand fit options. The standard version measures less than 16mm when measuring the wand lip gap from the outside.
If your wand lips are 17mm or greater, please call and ask for an AW29 Wide Fit Glide.
Important: Measure the Lip Before You Order
GreenGlides make two versions of the AW29 glide, sized by the front-to-back gap across the wand lips, measured from the outside:
- Lip under 16 mm: GreenGlides AW29 standard fit (AW5GGAW29S)
- Lip 17 mm or more: this glide (AW5GGAW29S-WF, wide fit)
- Lip about 14.5 mm: CCW also lists the PTFE wand glide for AW29 (AW529T-CS)
If your wand measures between 16 and 17 mm, neither GreenGlides size is stated for it — send us the measurement or a photograph before ordering. Forcing the wrong size stresses the glide and it will not seal along the bottom edge.
Which wands it fits
GreenGlides list the AW29 glide for the CMP AW29 12 inch 2-jet S-bend wand and the Westpak WP12-2N 12 inch 2-jet wand. They note that some other 12 inch 2-jet S-bend wands have a different lip design, so the model name alone is not enough — measure.
What a glide actually changes
A bare wand head drags. The operator pushes harder, the head lifts at the front, and the vacuum seal breaks intermittently across the stroke. A glide lifts the head onto a low-friction face so it slides instead of dragging, and holds a consistent gap so the airflow into the slot is even along its length.
Three things follow: the wand pushes far more easily, which matters over a full day; the carpet comes up drier, because the airflow is doing what it was designed to do; and the operator can work at a consistent speed rather than fighting the tool.
Slotted, holed or hybrid?
The face pattern is the real decision, and it is a trade between agitation and airflow.
- Slotted — maximum agitation and debris removal. The slots let the pile lift into the opening as the head passes, which is what pulls grit and fibre out of the base. Pushes easily and dries slightly faster than a bare wand.
- Holed — maximum drying and the easiest push of the three. Less agitation, because the pile is not being worked into an opening the same way.
- Hybrid — a compromise, for operators who want some of both.
If you clean heavily soiled residential and commercial carpet, slotted. If you are working on lightly soiled maintenance cleaning where drying time is the selling point, holed.
GreenGlides describe the slotted face as the choice for dirtier carpet with debris in or on it, with recessed bridges between the slots to avoid leaving lines. As the bridges wear they can be re-recessed with a knife, razor or rotary tool. CCW lists the slotted version of this glide; ask us if you want a holed or hybrid face.

Fitting the glide
GreenGlides' fitting instructions for their push-on glides:
- Warm the glide in a large pot of boiling water for 10–20 minutes. The PTFE (Teflon) will not be damaged — GreenGlides note its melting point is over 500°F.
- Push one end of the glide onto the wand lips at a steep angle.
- Squeeze the rest of the glide onto the lips, working along the head, until it snaps firmly into place.
- Check it does not rock or wiggle on the wand. A glide that moves is the wrong fit.
Do not hammer or force the glide on — GreenGlides state that voids its warranty. To remove one, pry it off gently with putty knives rather than levering against the wand. On older or worn wands GreenGlides mention that a sealant may be needed; leave the ends open for vacuum relief.
Frequently asked questions
How do I measure the lip?
Measure across the wand lips front to back, from the outside of one lip to the outside of the other, with callipers, a slide rule or a metric ruler. Under 16 mm takes the standard fit; 17 mm or more takes the wide fit.
Will it fit my wand?
If it is a CMP AW29 or a Westpak WP12-2N and the lip measures 17 mm or more, yes. Other 12 inch 2-jet S-bend wands vary — GreenGlides note some have a different lip design. Glide fitment is not standardised between manufacturers, so the nominal wand size on its own is never enough to go on.
Is a glide safe on wool and delicate carpet?
A glide is gentler than a bare head, because it slides rather than dragging the metal edge across the pile. On wool, loop pile and Berber the usual caution is speed and moisture rather than the glide itself. If you are working on a delicate or high value floor, slow the stroke down rather than leaning harder on the tool.
How long does a glide last?
It depends entirely on the floors you work. Grit is what wears the face, so commercial entrance carpet takes a glide down far faster than domestic lounge rooms. Check the face for grooving and check that it still sits flat — a glide that has worn unevenly loses the consistent gap that made it worth fitting.
Do I need to take it off for stairs or upholstery?
No — you would change tools rather than remove the glide. Glides are fitted to a floor wand and stay there. Stair and upholstery work is done with the appropriate hand tool. GreenGlides also advise against frequent removal and refitting, which wears the glide early.
Can I fit it myself?
Yes. Warm it in boiling water and push it on as described above. Do not hammer it on — that voids the GreenGlides warranty. If it will not go on without force, stop and check the lip measurement.

Glide fitment depends on the exact wand, the year it was made and whether the head is an internal or external fit. Measure your wand head or send us a photograph with a tape across it and we will confirm the right glide before you order — a glide that nearly fits does not fit.
