OmniPro Soot Wash 2.95KG

OmniPro Soot Wash is specifically formulated to remove tough soot stains from water-safe textiles including clothing, sheets, upholstery, carpet, and drapes.

It is a powder, supplied in a 2.95 kg (6.5 lb) jar and mixed with hot water. It can be used as a prespray for carpets and upholstery, or as a detergent in washing machines for the removal of soot from water-safe fabrics.

Important: Synthetic Fibres, Cotton and Polyester Only

OmniPro's label recommends Soot Wash for synthetic carpet, upholstery and curtains, and for clothes made from cotton or synthetic materials like polyester. It is not recommended for wool, silks or other water-sensitive fabrics. The solution is alkaline (pH 11–11.5 ready to use). Check the fibre before you mix it, and use a wool-safe product on wool carpet and upholstery.

Soot Wash solves the 3 main issues with cleaning soot-contaminated textiles

1) Hard-to-remove soot stains.

• Soot Wash surfactants penetrate deep into textiles to remove stubborn soot stains and then loosen soot from the fibres through a powerful charge-charge interaction.

2) Strong smoke odours.

• Soot Wash permanently neutralises odours with a pairing agent that gets rinsed away after cleaning.

3) Redeposition of soot particles.

• Once soot has been removed from the textile it can reattach when sitting in a washing machine. Soot Wash contains ions that prevent re-staining from occurring and allows for thorough removal of stains.

OmniPro's two documents describe the odour step differently. The label says Soot Wash neutralises odours with a pairing agent; the spec sheet says odours are neutralised when Soot Wash is boosted with OmniPro Smoke & More Original. For strong smoke odour, both documents direct you to add the booster.

Where It Fits in a Soot Job

Remove loose, dry soot before any wet cleaning. Vacuum with suitable filtration and use a dry cleaning sponge on light residues; wetting dry soot first drives it deeper into the fibre. Soot Wash is the wet-cleaning step for textiles once the dry soot is off.

Directions: Synthetic Carpet and Upholstery

1. Mix 4 oz (2 scoops) of Soot Wash in 1 US gallon (3.8 L) of hot water.
2. When whitening is needed, boost with 1 to 2 oz of Bridgepoint Systems Boost All.
3. For extreme smoke odours, boost with up to 4 oz of Smoke & More Original.
4. Spray the mixture evenly on synthetic carpet or upholstery and use agitation appropriate for the surface.
5. Allow up to 10 minutes before extracting. Do not allow the solution to dry on the surface before extracting.

In a Hydro-Force Injection Sprayer

• 1:8 metering tip: add 16 oz (8 scoops) to the 5 qt (4.7 L) Hydro-Force container and fill with water.
• 1:4 metering tip: add 8 oz (4 scoops) and fill with water.

Spray the ready-to-use mixture evenly, agitate, and extract within 10 minutes as above.

Directions: Laundry

1. Add 4 to 8 oz (2 to 4 scoops) of Soot Wash to a full load of laundry. Follow the washing machine instructions for powdered detergent.
2. When whitening is needed, boost with 1 to 2 oz of Bridgepoint Systems Boost All.
3. For extreme smoke odours, boost with up to 4 oz of Smoke & More Original.

OmniPro presents this as an institutional laundry detergent. The label and spec sheet give quantities in US ounces and scoops; neither gives a scoop size in grams. The spec sheet's general dilution is 2–4 oz per US gallon, which is roughly 0.5–1 oz per litre.

Safety

• Warning. Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye irritation (Skin Irritation Cat 2, Eye Irritation Cat 2 — US SDS, May 2023).
• Wear tightly fitting safety goggles or a face shield, protective gloves and protective clothing. Wash face, hands and exposed skin after handling.
• The SDS also notes it may cause respiratory irritation and is toxic to aquatic life. Do not tip solution or waste water into stormwater drains.
• Declared ingredients: sodium carbonate 20–30%, C9–11 alcohol ethoxylate 5–10%, sodium metasilicate 1–5% (SDS). The label also lists sodium tripolyphosphate and sodium bicarbonate.
• Transport: not regulated (DOT, IMDG and IATA).
• Keep out of reach of children.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Soot Wash on wool carpet or upholstery?

No. OmniPro does not recommend it for wool, silk or other water-sensitive fabrics. It is an alkaline product intended for synthetic fibres, cotton and polyester.

Is it a liquid or a powder?

A powder. You mix it with hot water for prespray use or add it to the wash as a powdered detergent.

How much do I put in a Hydro-Force injection sprayer?

16 oz (8 scoops) in the 5 qt container with the 1:8 metering tip, or 8 oz (4 scoops) with the 1:4 tip, then fill with water.

Will it remove heavy smoke odour on its own?

For extreme smoke odours OmniPro directs you to boost the solution with up to 4 oz of Smoke & More Original. Odour trapped in building materials or contents that were not washed will need its own treatment.

Should I dry-clean the soot first?

Yes. Remove loose soot by vacuuming and dry sponging before wet cleaning. Soot Wash is designed to lift the soot that remains in the textile.

Can I let it dwell longer on heavy soot?

The directions say to allow up to 10 minutes and not to let the solution dry on the surface. A second application is safer than a long dwell.
