VacAway Odour Death Super Deodoriser with Stabilized CLO2 3.78 Ltrs

VacAway Odour Death is a stabilised chlorine dioxide (ClO2) deodoriser for professional carpet, upholstery and hard-surface odour work. VacAway sums it up as "death to odours".

It works by oxidation rather than fragrance. That means it has to reach the source of the odour to work, which is why the directions below focus on locating the source and getting enough product into it.

How Does Odour Death Remove Odour?

• First of all, it does not work by masking or covering up odour.
• It does not use troublesome, slow-acting enzymes.
• It uses the oxidising power of stabilised ClO2 technology.

What Kind of Odour Does Odour Death Remove?

• VacAway lists obnoxious odours such as those caused by pet urine, skunk spray, vomit, mould and mildew, faeces, and organic and protein decay.
• It is very effective on odours associated with death, such as cadaverine (dead mouse).
• It works to remove odours caused by urine, smoke, putrefaction, doggie odour and similar.

Odour Death is a deodoriser. It removes the smell of mould and mildew, not the growth itself. Where mould is present, remove it under a proper remediation scope first.

Besides Removing Odour, What Other Qualities Does Odour Death Have?

• It can be added to most cleaning pre-sprays to create a dual-purpose application.
• It will not leave a sticky, dirt-attracting residue. It dries completely non-sticky.

Dilution

Odour Death is designed for use as a stand-alone product, but if preferred, it can be added to most detergents and pre-sprays.

The two sets of figures do not agree. CCW's rates are lower than the bulletin's. We are confirming with the supplier. Until then, use the bulletin rate on heavy odour jobs, and remember that contact with the source matters more than strength.

Directions

1. Remove any visible odour source and pre-vacuum the carpet.
2. Locate contaminated areas using a black light or moisture detector.
3. Treat the areas with a pump-up or injection sprayer until saturated. An in-line pressure sprayer (10:1 tip) may be used without diluting the product. Agitate with a pile brush or rake.
4. For subsurface applications on carpet, a water-claw-like tool can be used to extract from the carpet backing and padding underneath.
5. Depending on the saturation of substrate and degree of odour, apply to carpeting at approximately 10 to 30 square metres per 4 L of ready-to-use product (VacAway: 100 to 300 sq ft per gallon, which agrees) and give 15 to 20 minutes dwell time.
6. Clean and extract with your method of choice, such as hot water extraction or a low moisture system, such as pads or bonnets.

• Remember, to remove odour, the solution MUST come in contact with the odour source, so in severe situations, complete saturation of the carpet, including the padding, may be necessary.
• This product WILL NOT leave a dirt-attracting residue.
• Pre-test all items to be cleaned for colour fastness before applying.
• It may be used on all surfaces that are both colour-fast and water-safe.
• Use to kill odours on upholstery, mattresses, hard surfaces, pet bedding, litter boxes and similar.
• For hard surfaces, spray or wipe Odour Death and let it set for several seconds; remove with a clean, damp cloth or towel.

Safety

The SDS on file (The Cleaner Image, US format, revised 21 March 2023) lists sodium chlorite below 5% in water and gives the signal word Warning:

• H272: may intensify fire; oxidiser. Keep the concentrate away from combustible materials and store it in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.
• H319: causes serious eye irritation. Wear eye protection (P280). Gloves are recommended when mixing.
• Avoid breathing mist or spray, and use with adequate ventilation.
• Sodium chlorite is toxic to aquatic life. Dispose of waste to sewer or as your local authority requires, never to stormwater.

The SDS states the product is not regulated for US transport (DOT). No Australian-format SDS is on file yet; ask us if your site requires one.

Can I add it to my pre-spray?

Yes, VacAway says it can be added to most detergents and pre-sprays. On heavy urine or decay odour, a stand-alone application at the right rate usually works better, because you can saturate the source without over-wetting the rest of the carpet.

Why did the odour come back?

Usually the product did not reach all of the source. Urine in underlay and subfloor needs saturation or subsurface extraction. Re-check with a black light or moisture detector and treat what you missed.

Is it safe on wool?

VacAway lists it as wool and stain-resist safe. Test for colourfastness first, as the directions require.

Does it kill mould?

It removes mould and mildew odour. It is not sold as a mould remover or disinfectant. Remove the mould first, then deal with the smell.

Can I mix it with other chemicals?

Only as VacAway describes (added to a pre-spray or detergent). Do not mix it with other chemicals outside those directions, and do not store the concentrate with combustibles, given its H272 oxidiser classification.
