Releasit Encap-HydrOx Encapsulation Carpet Cleaner 5ltr

Encap-HydrOx is a hydrogen peroxide encapsulation detergent made in the USA by ReleasIt, supplied by CCW in a 5 litre concentrate (CESRELHX005).

Releasit Encap-HydrOx is a total carpet cleaning system that handles a wide range of carpet care needs. With its hydrogen fortified encapsulation formula, ReleasIt describe Encap-HydrOx as a 7-in-1 textile cleaning product:

1. Encap-HydrOx is an encapsulating shampoo.
2. Encap-HydrOx is an encapsulating bonnet/pad cleaner.
3. Encap-HydrOx is an encapsulating hot water extraction detergent.
4. Encap-HydrOx is an encapsulating traffic lane cleaner.
5. Encap-HydrOx is an encapsulating de-browner.
6. Encap-HydrOx is an encapsulating upholstery cleaner.

The list has six entries; the seventh use is protein spot removal, covered under the directions below.

What It Is For

Encap-HydrOx combines a highly active hydrogen peroxide detergent blend with a special crystallising polymer (ReleasIt call it CRYSTALON-hp). The peroxide adds oxygen to the cleaning to loosen organic-based soil and remove browning. The polymer captures soil. The encapsulated residue that is left in the carpet following cleaning can be extracted from the carpet during the routine post-vacuuming process.

Choose it over a standard encap detergent such as Encap-Clean DS2 when the soil is organic — food and drink spills, traffic lanes with body soil, browning — or when you want one product for encap, extraction and spotting on the van.

• Unlocks protein soil from the fibre.
• Brightens the carpet naturally (no optical brighteners).
• The crystallising encapsulation polymer resists re-soiling. The micro-encapsulated soil particles will not reattach to the carpet fibre. ReleasIt state that carpets cleaned with Encap-HydrOx stay clean longer than with traditional detergents.
• Dries to a crystallised residue. No rinsing is required. The non-sticky encapsulated residue will not attract more soil.
• Safe for stain-resist, and all synthetic fibres.
• Neutralises many odours.
• Powerful protein spot removal capabilities. Encap-HydrOx removes blood, coffee, chocolate, red wine, urine stains, soft drinks, food stains, and more.

ReleasIt describe Encap-HydrOx as environmentally friendly and say it helps reduce contaminants associated with indoor air pollutants. ReleasIt's own safety data sheet also says it is harmful to aquatic life, so do not tip concentrate or waste solution into stormwater.

Cleaning, Not Disinfection

• While no method of carpet cleaning can claim to totally disinfect a carpet, ReleasIt say it is possible to lower the microbial and viral content.
• ReleasIt publish a document on the hydrogen peroxide content of Encap-HydrOx and its effect on microbial reduction. The copy previously linked here was hosted on a third party's website rather than our own, so we have removed the link and requested a current copy to host. Ask us if you need it in the meantime.

Encap-HydrOx is sold by CCW as a carpet and upholstery cleaner. CCW makes no disinfection or sanitising claim for it. Where a job scope calls for a disinfection step, use a product registered for that purpose in Australia and follow its label.

Cleaning Directions

CCW's directions are ReleasIt's US directions. Metric equivalents are shown in brackets. Where ReleasIt's current US listing gives a different rate, both are shown.

Shampoo Encap Method

• Mix Encap-HydrOx at 10 oz per gallon of warm or hot water (about 78 mL per litre). ReleasIt's current US listing gives 8–10 oz per gallon (about 63–78 mL/L).
• Apply with a coarse tip sprayer or with a shower-feed solution tank.
• Scrub the carpet thoroughly making overlapping passes with a Cimex, rotary, or cylindrical brush machine.
• Rinsing is not required.
• Vacuum at the next scheduled vacuuming interval.

Traffic Lane Pre-Spray

• Mix Encap-HydrOx at 12 oz per gallon (about 94 mL/L).
• Apply with a pump or battery-powered sprayer using a coarse spray tip.
• Apply a heavier amount in more soiled areas.
• Allow 5-10 minutes of dwell time.

Hot Water Extraction

• Mix Encap-HydrOx at 1-2 oz per gallon in portable extractors (about 8–16 mL/L).
• For truck-mounts mix 1 quart per 5 gallons of stock solution (about 1 part to 20).

Protein Spot Removal

• Mix 1 part Encap-HydrOx with 3 parts water.
• Apply a liberal amount of the spotting mixture to the spot.
• Allow 5-10 minutes of dwell time.
• Blot with a towel.
• Rinsing is not normally required.

Browning Treatment

• Mix Encap-HydrOx at 140ml per Litre. ReleasIt's current US listing gives 20 oz per gallon (about 156 mL/L).
• Spray the affected area thoroughly.
• Allow 10 minutes of dwell time.
• Clean using minimal moisture, and dry the area quickly.

Upholstery Shampoo

• Mix Encap-HydrOx at 10 oz per gallon of warm or hot water (about 78 mL/L; ReleasIt US listing 8–10 oz per gallon).
• Apply evenly using a coarse tip sprayer.
• Brush the fabric gently with a horsehair brush or equivalent SOFT bristled brush.
• Gently towel off the upholstery or extract with a clear water rinse.

NOTE: Always test for colour-fastness in an inconspicuous area if there's any chance of colour loss or colour migration.

Wool and Natural Fibres

Neither CCW nor ReleasIt lists wool as suitable. The concentrate is acidic (pH 3 ± 0.5) and contains hydrogen peroxide, which can affect wool, silk and some dyes. Use a wool-safe product on natural fibres unless you have tested and are confident.

Safety and Storage

ReleasIt's safety data sheet (US format, revised May 2024) classifies the concentrate as Warning:

• H315 — causes skin irritation
• H320 — causes eye irritation
• H333 — may be harmful if inhaled

It contains hydrogen peroxide below 10%, has a concentrate pH of 3.0 ± 0.5 and carries an oxidiser (OXY) special-hazard rating. Wear gloves and tightly fitting safety goggles when mixing. Rinse skin with plenty of water after contact; flush eyes for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention.

Store in a cool, ventilated place out of direct sunlight, with the container tightly closed. Keep it away from reducing agents, organic material, dirt, iron and heavy metals. Containers can build pressure as oxygen is released under heat — ReleasIt's US listing advises storing it in a cool, dark place and periodically releasing built-up air. Never return mixed solution to the drum. The SDS lists it as not regulated for transport.

Frequently Asked Questions

Encap-HydrOx or Encap-Clean DS2?

DS2 is a general encap maintenance detergent with a fluoro-protector and is described as safe for most wool. HydrOx adds hydrogen peroxide for organic soil, browning and protein spots, and is for synthetic fibres. Many contractors carry both.

Can I use it through my truckmount or portable?

Yes. ReleasIt give extraction rates of 1–2 oz per gallon in portables and 1 quart per 5 gallons of stock solution for truckmounts (see directions above).

Will it remove browning?

Browning treatment is one of the listed uses: mix stronger, spray, allow 10 minutes, clean with minimal moisture and dry fast. Over-wetting is the usual cause of browning, so fast drying matters.

Does it disinfect the carpet?

CCW makes no disinfection claim for Encap-HydrOx. It is a cleaner. Use a product registered for disinfection in Australia where a scope requires it.

Why does the drum swell?

Hydrogen peroxide slowly releases oxygen, especially when warm. Store it cool and out of the sun, and release built-up pressure carefully with eye protection on.
