Product Overview

Fabric Shield SV is an advanced solvent-based fluorochemical polymer protector for spills and stains. It creates a durable, highly repellent property on each fibre, holding spills at the surface long enough to be removed before they cause permanent staining.

The point of the solvent carrier is what it lets you protect. Fabric Shield SV is the product for dry-clean-only fabrics — the ones you cannot safely wet with a water-based protector. That is the reason it exists and the reason it is worth the extra handling care set out below.

Which pack size do you need?

This is the 1 litre pack — roughly two to three lounge suites at the stated coverage. The 5 litre is the better buy if you protect regularly, and it is still within the pack-size transport exemption noted below.

Which protector do you need?

CCW carries three Actichem protectors and they are not interchangeable. Choosing correctly the first time saves a callback.

• Fabric Shield SV (this product) — solvent based, for upholstery and fabrics including dry-clean-only goods.
• Fabric Shield RTU — water based, for water-cleanable upholstery and fabrics. It also carries specialty acid-dye stain blockers for red cordial spills, which the solvent version does not. If the fabric can safely be wet, RTU is usually the better choice — it is the lower-hazard product.
• Fibre Shield — water based, formulated for nylon and wool carpet rather than upholstery.

Directions for Use

Always pre-test in an inconspicuous location for substrate sensitivity. Ensure the fabric is clean and free of chemical residue before you protect it — a protector locks in whatever is already there. It can be applied to dry or damp fabric.

Coverage

Approximately 400 ml per 5 to 7 seater lounge, or per 15 m².

Application

1. Ready to use. No mixing required.
2. Spray from 25 to 30 cm away using a smooth back-and-forth motion, overlapping slightly. The fabric should be wetted out. Do not over-apply.
3. Brush with a soft brush to spread the protector evenly.
4. Align the fabric and speed dry.

Sprayer

Use a low-pressure sprayer with a 65015 jet, up to 60 psi.

Dedicate the sprayer to Fabric Shield SV. This has always been on this page, and the safety data sheet explains why: the product dissolves rubber, many plastics, resins and some coatings. Seals, O-rings and wands that live in a water-based protector will not necessarily survive a solvent one, and a sprayer that has been swapped back and forth is the one that fails mid-job on a customer’s lounge. Label it and keep it separate.

Safety

Please read this section before your next job. This listing previously carried no safety information at all. That was an omission on our part, and it mattered, because Fabric Shield SV is one of the more tightly classified products in our protector range.

Actichem’s safety data sheet for AP473, version 2.3 issued 5 September 2025, classifies it as a hazardous chemical and a dangerous good with the signal word DANGER.

⚠ H304 — aspiration hazard

Fabric Shield SV is over 60% hydrotreated heavy naphtha. The danger is not poisoning from a large dose; it is that a small amount reaching the lungs causes chemical pneumonitis, which can be fatal and can develop hours later.

• Never siphon or transfer by mouth, and never decant into an unlabelled drink container.
• If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor immediately.
• Symptoms can be delayed. Seek assessment even if the person seems fine.

⚠ H226 — flammable, and how flammable

Flash point 54 °C. That is worth putting in context rather than treating “flammable” as one undifferentiated category:

• Defender SV flashes at about 20 °C — at or below normal room temperature.
• Fabric Shield SV flashes at 54 °C — the highest of our solvent group, and above any normal indoor temperature.

In practice that means Fabric Shield SV will not generate a flammable vapour in an air-conditioned lounge room the way a low-flash solvent will. It is still a flammable liquid. A hot car boot, a shed roof space in a Queensland summer, or a van parked in the sun will reach 54 °C. Keep it away from heat, sparks and open flame, do not smoke while using it, and do not store it in a vehicle over summer.

⚠ What it attacks

Avoid contact with caustics, strong acids, oxidising agents and nitrates. The product also dissolves rubber, many plastics, resins and some coatings — see the sprayer note above, and pre-test any painted, coated or plastic trim adjacent to the fabric you are protecting.

Ventilation and personal protective equipment

Work with good ventilation — this is a sprayed solvent and you will be applying it across a whole lounge suite. Chemical goggles or safety glasses with side shields, and protective clothing. An eyewash unit should be available where the product is decanted.

First aid

Swallowed — do NOT induce vomiting. Immediately call a Poisons Information Centre or doctor, and tell them the product is an aspiration hazard.

Eyes. Wash out immediately with fresh running water, holding the eyelids open. Seek medical attention.

Skin. Remove contaminated clothing. Wash with soap and water.

Inhalation. Remove to fresh air.

Transport and storage

Fabric Shield SV is a classified dangerous good, but Actichem’s sheet states it is not regulated for transport in pack sizes of 5 litres or less. Both pack sizes we carry fall within that exemption, so ordinary freight applies. That exemption covers transport — it does not change how the product should be stored or handled on site.
