Brass is the standard-duty choice: cheaper than stainless and entirely adequate for carpet cleaning solution at normal truckmount pressure and temperature.
Flo-Thru or Valved?
A standard quick connect has an internal poppet that shuts off when you uncouple, so the hose does not empty. That poppet is a restriction, and every restriction upstream of a jet costs pressure.
A flo-thru coupling has no valve. The bore is clear, flow is unrestricted and pressure drop is minimal. The trade-off is that the line drains when you uncouple it.
Choose flo-thru where flow and pressure matter more than convenience — high pressure work, hot solution lines, and any tool already marginal at the jet. Choose valved where the drip is the bigger problem.
Brass or Stainless?
No manufacturer publishes a selection rule, so here is the trade one, stated as guidance rather than as a specification.
Brass — this fitting — is fine for carpet cleaning solution at normal truckmount pressure and temperature, and it is the cheaper part.
Stainless earns its price where acidic tile and grout chemistry, higher pressure or sustained high temperature is routine. Check Both Ends Before Ordering
Quick connect naming is genuinely inconsistent across this range, and it causes more wrong orders than anything else in the catalogue. A fitting can be "male" as a coupling half and still carry a female pipe thread on its other end.
Before ordering, tell us what is either side of the joint — the tool or machine, and the fitting already on the hose — and we will confirm the coupling half and the thread standard.

This coupling belongs to a general-purpose industrial quick coupling family with a much higher pressure rating than any carpet cleaning application requires. Rather than publish a hydraulic figure that invites the wrong comparison, we have left it out — if a specific rating matters for your application, ask us and we will confirm it from the manufacturer.
Operating Advice
- Depressurise before uncoupling. A flow-through coupling has no valve, so the line drains and a live line does it forcefully.
- Seal the threaded end as you would any tapered thread. Never put tape or sealant on the coupling face.
- Keep the faces clean. Grit carried into a coupling scores the seat, and a scored seat leaks with every new seal you fit.
- Replace a coupling that has become stiff. Stiffness is wear, and wear ends in a joint that will not release under pressure.

What does flow-through mean?
No internal shut-off valve. The bore is clear, so there is minimal pressure drop — but the line drains when you uncouple.
Will it fit my 1/4 inch fittings?
