Pumptec 500 psi brass pressure regulator with a silver spring. It sets and holds the working pressure on a portable extractor pump circuit and bypasses excess flow.
The Spring Colour Is the Rating
Regulator springs are colour-coded to their pressure range. The silver spring in this regulator sets the 500 psi band. Fitting a spring from a different regulator changes the pressure the machine delivers, and a machine running above what its hoses and valves are rated for is a safety problem rather than a performance one.
Why It Matters on a Plunger Pump
Pumptec plunger pumps are positive displacement: they deliver a fixed volume every stroke. That flow has to go somewhere. Pumptec recommends a regulating valve at the pump as a safety device, so pressure cannot build without limit if a valve or tool is closed.

No. The silver spring sets the 500 psi range. Running above the rating of your hoses and fittings is a safety risk.
