The Delmhorst BDX-30 is a pin-type moisture meter for building trades and restoration work. It reads moisture content in timber from 6% to 60%, drywall from 0.1% to 6%, and gives a 1 to 100 reference scale for other building materials. It corrects for 37 wood species and for temperature, stores up to 100 readings, and connects over Bluetooth to the Delmhorst EDGE app.
What is in this package
- BDX-30 meter
- 324CAS-0112 hard carrying case
- 21-E deep wall electrode, 3.25 inch penetration
- Two spare 2498/A-100 contact pins
The Behind the Wall package adds the 21-E, which reads inside a wall cavity through a small drilled hole rather than at the surface. That is the difference between knowing the plasterboard is damp and knowing whether the framing behind it is.
Which BDX-30 package do I need?
All four are the same meter. They differ only in which electrodes and spare pins are in the case, so choose on the work you do rather than on the price.
| Package | Adds | Suits |
| Meter and case | Two spare 2498/A-100 pins | Surface readings with the built-in pins. Add electrodes later. |
| Behind the Wall | 21-E electrode | Reading inside wall cavities and behind finishes through a small hole. |
| Wood Flooring | 26-ES slide hammer and ten spare 496 insulated pins | Driving through timber flooring to read at depth. |
| Contractor / EIFS | Both electrodes, HP-1 hole punch, spare 608/001 and 496 pins | Mixed restoration work across wall cavities, flooring and cladding. |
Buying a package is normally cheaper than adding the electrode separately later. If you already own a 21-E or 26-ES from another Delmhorst meter, they carry across — all Delmhorst electrodes fit all current meters.

Frequently asked questions
Pin meter or pinless — which do I need?
The BDX-30 is a pin meter. Pins measure electrical resistance between two points, which gives a quantitative moisture content reading at a known depth and lets you map moisture through a structure. A pinless meter scans without marking the surface but reads only near-surface and gives a relative indication. On restoration work most contractors carry both, or use a 3-in-1 that has pin and scan modes in one unit.
Does it leave holes?
Yes. The integral pins leave two small marks, and the electrodes leave larger ones. On exposed finishes, read in a wardrobe, under a skirting or behind furniture. If marking is unacceptable, a pinless instrument is the better tool.
Why does species selection matter?
Resistance varies between timber species at the same moisture content, so an uncorrected reading can be several percent out. The BDX-30 holds 37 species and materials. Selecting the right one is the difference between a defensible reading and a rough guide — and on a flooring dispute that difference matters.
What does the temperature correction do?
Resistance also changes with temperature. Correcting from −18 °C to 124 °C keeps readings comparable between a cold subfloor and a heated room, which is what makes drying records meaningful over the course of a job.
What is the EDGE app for?
It connects over Bluetooth and adds timestamps and geotags to readings, then exports to CSV. On insurance work that record is often what supports the claim — readings with a date, a location and a trend rather than numbers written on a job sheet.
Can I use my existing electrodes?
Yes. All Delmhorst electrodes fit all current Delmhorst meters, so a 21-E or 26-ES from an older meter works on the BDX-30.
Support and warranty
Carpet Cleaners Warehouse is the exclusive Australian distributor for Delmhorst outside the agricultural sector. Service, calibration questions and warranty claims are handled here rather than sent overseas, and we hold electrodes and pins in stock.
Two year warranty on manufacturing defects. This does not exclude, restrict or modify your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the ACL. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
