
Maxim S.O.S. Carpet and Rug Protector is specially designed to protect nylon or wool rugs and carpets without the use of smelly solvents, fluorochemicals, or re-soiling silicones.
It contains a highly concentrated, anti-staining polymer that coats fibres and prevents staining agents like red wine, juice, and cordial from permanently bonding to the carpet fibre.
Two additional ingredients, an anti-re-soiling, anti-wicking polymer, and an odour-neutralising agent, ensure complete customer satisfaction. The anti-re-soiling polymer makes the fibres less “sticky”, causing soil that would normally attach to carpet fibre, to slide off instead so that it is then easily removed through vacuuming. A feature unique to Maxim S.O.S. Carpet and Rug Protector is the odour-neutralising agent that helps eliminate unpleasant odours associated with wet carpet. DIRECTIONS:
- Dilution:Dilute by mixing 1 part concentrate protector with 4 parts water. Product covers 125 to 250 sq. mtrs. per concentrated 3.8 ltr.
- Coverage:25 to 50 sq. mtrs. per diluted 3.8ltrs for damp or dry carpet. Coverage depends on carpet pile density; i.e. heavy pile residential requires 4ltrs per 25 sq. mtrs., low pile commercial requires 3.8ltrs per 48 sq. mtrs.
- Pre-test:Test white rugs or carpets in an inconspicuous place to see if the fibre dulls or yellows to any degree before proceeding. Dilute further with water if there is a possibility of an amber tint. If amber tint is present after the carpet dries it can be removed with a clear water rinse. 4
- Application:Apply to freshly cleaned carpet using an electric or battery-powered sprayer maintaining 35 to 50 psi with an 8004 TeeJet nozzle. Apply evenly over the entire carpet surface and then brush or rake the carpet. If the carpet is stiff after drying then vacuum or groom the carpet to remove stiffness.

pH and fibre compatibility
Bridgepoint publish a pH figure for most products in this range, and it is the single most useful number when deciding what to put on a floor.

Rinse to a neutral or slightly acidic finish. Alkaline residue left in the pile attracts soil and can cause the carpet to resoil faster than before it was cleaned. That is what an acid rinse is for, and why the pH of the rinse matters as much as the pH of the prespray.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this on wool?
Check the pH against the table above and read the label. Products at pH 11 and above are for synthetic fibre unless Bridgepoint state otherwise. Wool tolerates a much narrower pH band than nylon, and alkaline damage is not reversible.
Why does my carpet resoil quickly after cleaning?
Usually alkaline residue left in the pile. High pH cleaners work by breaking down soil, but anything left behind stays sticky. Rinsing to a neutral or slightly acidic finish is what prevents it.
Do I need to dilute exactly?
Yes. The dilution on the label is what the published pH refers to. Running a product stronger than specified moves the pH further from neutral, which increases both cleaning power and the risk to the fibre.
