Charging in the vehicle
Useful on a day of back-to-back inspections. Two cautions: do not leave a lithium pack charging in a closed vehicle in summer heat, and check the adapter is not left drawing from the battery with the engine off.
Looking after lithium-ion
Store at partial charge rather than flat or full, keep the pack out of a hot vehicle in summer, and stop using any pack that has swollen, been crushed or been dropped hard. A damaged lithium pack is a fire risk and it does not always show its damage on the outside.
Charge with the manufacturer’s charger. A generic charger with the right plug and the wrong charge profile is how packs are ruined and, occasionally, how they catch fire.
