Minehan Biodet Mould Remover is a plant-derived cleaner for removing mould growth and staining from hard surfaces and fabric. Made from renewable resources as a complex mixture of bio-flavonoid ingredients, it suits air conditioning unit cleaning and post-flood clean-up, and helps control musty odours from wet and stagnant water.
Key features
- Plant-derived, from renewable resources
- Cleans mould growth and staining from hard surfaces and fabric
- Concentrate: dilute from 10:1 to 40:1
- Mildly acidic, pH 3.4 to 3.6
- Helps control musty odours after water damage
Applications
Air conditioning unit cleaning, mould clean-up on hard surfaces and fabric, and post-flood work. Minehan's directions allow timber framing to be sprayed and left while plasterboard linings are replaced.
Directions
- Clean the surfaces with Biodet diluted 20:1. Spray, leave for 20 minutes, then wipe off.
- As a follow-up, mist the treated surface. Minehan state that within 24 to 48 hours the remaining mould will drop away from the surface. Remove it by HEPA vacuuming or wiping.
Mixing instructions
Cleaning
- Heavy duty: 10 to 1
- Medium duty: 15 to 1
- Light duty: 20 to 1
Mould removal
- Heavy duty: 25 to 1
- Light duty: 40 to 1
Further manufacturer rates
Minehan also list 25 to 1 (heavy), 30 to 1 (medium) and 40 to 1 (light) as sanitising rates. We do not publish sanitising claims for Biodet because no Australian listing is held. Use the cleaning and mould removal rates above.
Mould work: the practical sequence
Find and fix the moisture source, physically remove the growth and any unsalvageable porous materials, clean the surfaces, then dry the structure. No chemical replaces physical removal and drying. Wear the PPE listed on the safety data sheet; disturbed mould releases spores.

Frequently asked questions
Does Biodet kill mould?
We sell Biodet as a mould remover and cleaner, not a mould killer. Mould-kill and germ-kill claims in Australia need a registration that is not held for this product.
Can I use it on fabric?
Yes. Minehan list fabric as well as hard surfaces. Test a small, hidden area first.
Is it suitable after a flood?
Yes, as part of the clean-up. Remove water-damaged materials and dry the structure as well; cleaning alone does not resolve a wet building.
How is it different from bleach?
Biodet is a mildly acidic, plant-derived cleaner. Bleach is a strongly alkaline oxidiser that whitens staining. They do different jobs and must never be mixed.
A note on earlier versions of this page
Earlier versions of this page said Biodet has anti-fungal, antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-viral properties, kills mould spores and 99.9% of germs, works better than bleach, and is completely safe. These claims need an ARTG listing or APVMA registration that is not held for Biodet, or evidence we cannot verify, so they have been removed. The product is unchanged.
