Overview
The Hygiena EnSURE Touch is a handheld luminometer and monitoring system. It reads Hygiena test devices, stores the results, and syncs them to cloud software so a verification programme produces records rather than a notebook.
It has a 5 inch touch screen, wireless sync, and cloud-based reporting through SureTrend.
What ATP testing actually tells you
ATP — adenosine triphosphate — is the energy molecule present in all living cells and in residues derived from them. An ATP test does not identify organisms and it is not a microbiological count. What it measures is organic residue: food soil, body fluids, biofilm and the living cells within them.
That is exactly the right question for verifying cleaning. A surface that has been cleaned properly has had the residue removed; a surface that looks clean and still returns a high reading has not. The result arrives in seconds, while the cleaner is still on site and can do something about it.
What it is not: a test for pathogens, a substitute for microbiological sampling, or a measure of disinfection. A sanitiser can kill organisms and leave their ATP behind. Use ATP to verify that cleaning removed the soil — which is the step disinfection depends on.
What it reads
The EnSURE Touch is compatible with three families of Hygiena test device:

- AquaSnap Free — water ATP (not currently a stocked CCW line)
- Indicator organism tests — the MicroSnap range (Coliform, E. coli, Enterobacteriaceae, Total), which give same-day results and sit between an ATP reading and a full culture. Not currently stocked CCW lines — ask us.
- Enzyme tests — including SpotCheck Plus for glucose and lactose. Hygiena also list CrossCheck for acid phosphatase and ZymoSnap ALP for alkaline phosphatase; neither is currently a stocked CCW line.
Why the data side matters more than the meter
Any luminometer will give you a number. What separates a monitoring system from a gadget is whether those numbers become a record you can defend.
The EnSURE Touch syncs results over WiFi to SureTrend Cloud, where readings from multiple sites sit in one dashboard, with user access controls and the ability to trend results over time.
That matters for three practical reasons:
- A trend beats a reading. One high result is an argument. Twelve months of results showing a surface consistently passing, and the one week it did not, is evidence.
- Results stop depending on who took them. A test recorded against a named location by a named user at a known time is auditable. A number written on a clipboard is not.
- You can act on patterns rather than incidents. Recurring failures at the same location point at the procedure or the access, not at the cleaner.
Setting it up properly
Define your test points before you start. The value of the system is comparison over time, and that requires the same locations, sampled the same way, every time. Naming them properly at set-up saves months of unusable data.
Set your own pass and fail limits from your own baseline. There is no universal RLU figure that means clean. Sample surfaces you know have been properly cleaned, and derive your limits from those.
Agree the sampling technique — area, pressure, direction — and train to it. Most of the variation in ATP programmes comes from swabbing technique, not from the instrument.
Decide where in the cleaning cycle you sample. Sanitiser still wet on a surface can suppress the reading. Consistency matters more than which point you choose.

Choose the SystemSURE Plus if you need readings and will keep your own records. Choose the EnSURE Touch if the records themselves are part of what you are being asked to produce.
Frequently asked questions
Does it come with test devices?
No. The swabs and enzyme tests are consumables ordered separately.
What RLU number is a pass?
Yours to set, from your own baseline. Any figure quoted without reference to your surfaces and your soil is not evidence about your site.
Does it need internet access to work?
It reads and stores results on the device; the cloud sync is what moves them to SureTrend over WiFi. Talk to us about how your site is set up if connectivity is a constraint.
Can it identify bacteria?
ATP tests measure organic residue, not organisms. The MicroSnap indicator organism tests are the devices that address that, and they run on the same meter.
Can I use non-Hygiena swabs in it?
No. The meter and the devices are a matched system.
How do I know the meter itself is reading correctly?
Use a Cal Check — a reusable calibration verification device. CCW stocks one.
