Micro-specific, and central to how the machine works
An orbital machine is balanced by a counterweight running against the drive. If that connection wears, the machine loses its balance and the symptom is vibration and noise rather than loss of drive.
This gear is for the Orbot Micro. Do not order it for a full-size machine.
Identifying the right part
Fasteners and small components change between production runs, and the part on your machine may not match the current drawing. Measure what you are replacing, or photograph it against a ruler, and send that with your model and serial number. It takes a minute and it saves an order that does not fit.

Servicing the Micro Drive
Orbot's Micro operating manual (US, 2020 edition) calls for the gears to be inspected after approximately 400 hours of use, and re-lubricated with Texaco Multifax #2 or an equivalent grease if necessary.
The Micro's two heads are timed exactly half a turn apart. If you take the drive apart, mark the positions before removing the gear and reassemble with the same timing. A head that is out of time will run rough however new the parts are.
The manual we hold is the US edition. If your Micro was supplied in Australia and anything looks different from the description above, check with us before you order.

How do I know the drive gear is worn?
The usual symptom is more vibration and noise rather than loss of drive. With the machine isolated and the drive opened, look for worn, chipped or cracked teeth and for play at the counterweight connection.
Does this gear fit a full-size Orbot?
No. It is the Orbot Micro gear. Full-size machines use different drive parts — send us your model and serial number.
Should I re-grease when I fit a new gear?
Yes. Orbot specifies Texaco Multifax #2 or equivalent for the gears. Clean out old, contaminated grease before re-lubricating.
