What a damper does on an orbital
An orbital machine works by moving its head in a small, fast orbit. Everything mounted to that head is being shaken continuously, and dampers are what stop that vibration reaching the components. A perished damper transmits the vibration straight through, which is hard on fittings and unpleasant for the operator.
Identifying the right part
Fasteners and small components change between production runs, and the part on your machine may not match the current drawing. Measure what you are replacing, or photograph it against a ruler, and send that with your model and serial number. It takes a minute and it saves an order that does not fit.

When to Replace It
Replace the damper when it is cracked, hardened, flattened or missing, or when rattle and vibration around the spray cage has increased. If the assembly uses more than one damper, check them all while it is apart — an old damper beside a new one does not share the load the same way.

Can I use a generic rubber mount instead?
We do not recommend it. The size and hardness of the genuine damper are not published, so a look-alike mount may not isolate vibration the same way, and the fault it was meant to prevent comes back.
