ODORx Smoke Wash™ Removes odours from all water-washable materials.
Smoke Wash is a cleaner and deodorant effective on all types of fibre materials, including upholstery, clothing, linens, blankets, draperies, and more. Use as a laundry cleaning booster to deodorise soot and smoke odours in washable fabrics – simply add to each laundry load.
Smoke Wash can also be used for "dry foam" cleaning upholstery or carpet. Water-soluble Smoke Wash can be added as a booster to the wet side of carpet and upholstery cleaning solutions.
Where It Fits on a Fire Job
Smoke odour settles into every fabric in the building. Smoke Wash is the ODORx product for the washable contents — clothing, linens, blankets and curtains — and for boosting the wet side of your carpet and upholstery cleaning solution, so the cleaning pass also deals with the odour. Structural surfaces are handled separately: ODORx 9-D-9 for smoke odour counteracting, and a sealer such as Unsoot #1 or Fiberlock RECON where residue and odour need to be locked in.
- Check each item's care label first. Smoke Wash is for water-washable materials only.
- Test dye stability on a hidden area before treating coloured fabrics.
- Remove loose soot before washing — vacuum or dry-sponge first so it is not driven into the fibre.
Mixing
- Add 60ml to each wash load.
- For dry foam cleaning add 30-90ml per 4ltrs and agitate into a foam.
For dry foam, that works out at about 7.5–22.5 mL per litre of water.
Application
- Add to water-soluble cleaning solutions.
Safety
The SDS on this page is Legend Brands' US GHS SDS for product 113138, dated 11 July 2023. An Australian-format SDS is not yet on file. Read the SDS before use — it asks users to obtain special instructions before use and not to handle the product until all safety precautions have been read and understood.
- Signal word: Warning. Flammable liquid Category 3 (flash point 56 °C), skin sensitiser Category 1 (may cause an allergic skin reaction) and reproductive toxicity Category 2 (suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child).
- Declared ingredients: C9–C11 ethoxylated alcohols (25–50%), dipropylene glycol (25–50%), methyl salicylate (10–25%), amyl acetate (2.5–10%) and 2-methylbutyl acetate (2.5–10%).
- Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames and hot surfaces. No smoking. Keep the container closed.
- Wear gloves, protective clothing and eye protection (AS/NZS 1337.1). Take off contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse.
- Work with good ventilation. Where ventilation is inadequate, wear respiratory protection selected to AS/NZS 1716 and AS/NZS 1715 — for example a 3M 7500 series half-face respirator with 3M 60921 organic vapour/P100 cartridges.
- Store locked up, tightly closed, in the original container, in a cool, well-ventilated place.
- Transport: the SDS lists UN1993, Class 3, Packing Group III, limited quantity (IMDG), and "not recommended for air transport". CCW's dangerous goods shipping surcharge applies.

Can I use it in my carpet or upholstery cleaning solution?
Yes. It is water-soluble and can be added to the wet side of carpet and upholstery cleaning solutions as a booster. Pre-test on the fabric first.
Is it suitable for dry-clean-only fabrics?
No. Smoke Wash is for water-washable materials. Follow the care label; dry-clean-only items need a solvent process.
Why is there a dangerous goods surcharge?
The concentrate is a Category 3 flammable liquid (flash point 56 °C) and is shipped as UN1993, Class 3.
Anything special about handling it?
Yes. It is classified as a suspected reproductive toxin. Read the SDS before use, wear gloves, and follow its storage and handling instructions.
