Destroys the toughest odours. Liqui-Zone is used to attack unusually foul, organic odours originating from sources such as trauma and rotten food.
Liqui-Zone contains a strong oxidizing agent. Oxidizing agents preferentially attack materials that have strong odours. Liqui-Zone must come into direct contact with the odour-causing molecules in order to be effective. Oxidizing agents can also attack natural fibres and certain textile dyes. Because of this, it is very important to pre-test any item in an inconspicuous place before using Liqui-Zone. Liqui-Zone can also be used with the additive, ODORx Last Resort™ for even greater effectiveness.
Where It Is Used
Legend Brands' user guide lists trauma, skunk and rotten-food odours, and gives a common example: food that has spoiled in a refrigerator or freezer after a power failure. The oxidiser (sodium chlorite, 1–2.5% per the SDS) reacts with the odour-causing material itself, which is why it has to reach the source — spraying the air around it achieves little.
Where Not to Use It
- Textiles with chlorine-unstable dyes.
- Natural fibres such as wool, silk and cotton — the oxidiser can damage them.
- Mixed with anything not listed on the label. Legend Brands say not to mix Liqui-Zone with any product not listed on the label.
Use Instructions
- Mixing: Add 3–8 ounces Liqui-Zone per gallon of water depending on the severity of odours.
- Application: May be applied with a pressure sprayer or fogging device. Always test fabrics before use. The product must contact the source of odours to be effective.
- For complete instructions and safety data for this product, refer to the User Guide and Material Safety Data Sheet.
In metric, 3–8 US fluid ounces per US gallon is about 23–62 mL per litre. The standard ready-to-use strength below is 50 mL per litre.
Items Needed
- Odour Control Products: ODORx Liqui-Zone™, OdorX Last Resort™ (optional)
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as specified in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
- Supplies: an adequate supply of clean cloths and a plastic bag for the storage of soiled cloths, a measuring cup
- Equipment: Pressure sprayer and/or ULV fogger
Procedure for General Odour Control
To prepare a ready-to-use (RTU) solution, mix 6.5 ounces of concentrate with enough water to make one gallon (50 mL / L).
Be sure that the sprayers and other containers are clean. Even small amounts of contamination, even a staple, will react with the product and reduce effectiveness.
Application Details
- For best results apply RTU Liqui-Zone to a precleaned surface
- RTU Liqui-Zone solutions may be applied by spraying or ultra-low volume fogging.
- Allow to dry thoroughly before use.
- Reapply RTU Liqui-Zone if odour persists.
- When applying Liqui-Zone to fabrics, use a fine mist.
Pretesting: because Liqui-Zone is a strong oxidizing agent, it is capable of damaging sensitive surfaces such as textile dyes. Be sure to pre-test.
Fogging means ultra-low volume (ULV) cold fogging, as in the user guide. The guide does not mention thermal foggers — do not put Liqui-Zone through one.
Procedure for Death Scene / Severe Pet Odours
To prepare ready to use odour suppressing decontaminant for spray application, add the following to an empty gallon (4 L) container:
- 2 ounces (60 mL) Last Resort
- 8 ounces (240 mL) of Liqui-Zone
- Add enough warm tap water to make one gallon (4 L)
Use a pressure sprayer to apply this solution directly onto contaminated surfaces.
Which Last Resort rate? The 60 mL figure comes from the older Liqui-Zone guide, written for the original Last Resort. The product CCW now sells is Last Resort Plus, and its current label and user guide say up to 30 mL per 4 L with 240 mL Liqui-Zone. Use the Last Resort Plus rate.
Important Notes
- Liqui-Zone is an oxidizer and may damage fabrics, fabric dyes, etc. Pretest all surfaces to check for compatibility before applying the treatment.
- Neither Liqui-Zone nor Last Resort are germicidal products. Items that have been contaminated with blood or body fluids must be cleaned and decontaminated according to the United States Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) Blood Borne Pathogen Standard.
- All items and surfaces which came into contact with body fluids but which cannot be properly be decontaminated should be discarded.
In Australia, the US OSHA standard does not apply directly — follow the WHS and infection-control requirements for your state and the procedure your client or insurer specifies for biohazard cleaning.
Clean-Up
- Do not store leftover ready-to-use solution. It degrades over time — mix what you need for the job.
- Flush the sprayer with detergent, then rinse with water.
- Dispose of rinse and waste water properly — never into a stormwater drain, onto the ground or into surface water.
Safety
The SDS on this page is Legend Brands' US GHS SDS for product 118143, dated 30 May 2024. An Australian-format SDS is not yet on file. Read it before use.
- Signal word: Warning. Acute toxicity (inhalation) Category 4 — harmful if inhaled. Avoid breathing mist or spray; use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
- This matters most when fogging. Clear the area of occupants and pets, and wear respiratory protection selected to AS/NZS 1716 and AS/NZS 1715 — for example a 3M 7500 series half-face respirator with suitable cartridges. Ventilate before re-occupancy.
- Gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses with side shields (AS/NZS 1337.1).
- The chlorine odour can bother sensitive occupants. Legend Brands recommend a sniff test on a card, with the occupant's permission, before application.
- Store tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place.
- Not regulated for transport (DOT, IMDG, IATA).

Frequently Asked Questions
How much solution does one jug make?
At the standard 50 mL per litre, a 3.8 L jug makes about 76 L of ready-to-use solution.
Will it bleach carpet or upholstery?
It can. It is an oxidiser and can damage natural fibres and chlorine-unstable dyes. Pre-test every item in an inconspicuous place, and use a fine mist on fabrics.
Can I fog it?
Yes, with a ULV (cold) fogger, per Legend Brands' guide. It is harmful if inhaled, so clear the area and wear a respirator. Do not use a thermal fogger.
Why did it not work?
Usually because it did not reach the source, the source was not removed or cleaned first, or the sprayer was contaminated — even a staple reacts with it and reduces effectiveness. Mix fresh solution in a clean container.
Does it disinfect?
No. Liqui-Zone is not germicidal. Clean and decontaminate first; use Liqui-Zone for the odour that remains.
