Stage the filtration or you will pay for it
Filters are designed to work in series: a coarse pre-filter takes the bulk, a media filter takes the fines, and the HEPA takes what is left. Running a HEPA without the stages in front of it does not save money — it loads the most expensive filter in the machine with dust the cheapest one should have caught.
A blocked filter does not stop filtering — it stops flowing
Air scrubbers and dehumidifiers work in proportion to the air they move. As a filter loads, airflow falls, and the machine keeps running and keeps sounding normal while its actual performance drops away. Nothing on the machine tells you. The drying log shows equipment on site; the readings show a job that has stalled.
On fire, construction dust and demolition work, check filters daily.
Handle a used HEPA as contaminated waste
Everything the filter captured is still in it. On a mould, fire or sewage job, bag it as it comes out rather than carrying it through the building.
