SKU:FL8362-5

Fiberlock IAQ 6000HD is a white, tintable, high-build coating for use during new building construction. It is a durable, flexible 100% acrylic water-based flat coating containing a fungistatic agent that resists mould growth on the dry coating surface*.

It is designed for non-porous and semi-porous building materials: plasterboard (gypsum wallboard), oriented-strand board (OSB), timber framing, plywood, masonry block and other structural surfaces where a flexible, high-build, mould-resistant coating is needed. The HD high-build formula is aimed at one-coat coverage.

This listing: 5 US gallon (18.9 L) pail, white, CCW SKU FL8362-5.

*Resists mould growth on the dry coating surface only. It does not treat mould already in the substrate and does not replace remediation.

Important: Read the SDS Before You Apply

The Australian SDS (ICP Group Australasia, version 7.10, revised August 2026) classifies IAQ 6000HD as hazardous with the signal word Danger:

  • H315 — Causes skin irritation
  • H317 — May cause an allergic skin reaction
  • H319 — Causes serious eye irritation
  • H350 — May cause cancer
  • H412 — Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects

The SDS calls for protective gloves, clothing and eye/face protection, no breathing of mist, vapour or spray, and for all safety precautions to be read and understood before handling. Plan respiratory protection from the start when spraying; select the respirator and filter to AS/NZS 1716 from SDS section 8. CCW stocks the 3M 7502 and 3M 7503 half-face respirators and the 3M 60921 organic vapour/P100 cartridge.

IAQ 6000HD or IAQ 6000?

Both are white, tintable, 100% acrylic coatings with a fungistatic agent. IAQ 6000HD is the heavy-duty, high-build version, positioned by Fiberlock for new construction and structural materials such as OSB, framing and plywood, with slower recoat times (8–16 hours). IAQ 6000 is the standard version, with a 4-hour recoat. For a clear coating, see IAQ 6100 (Clear).

How to Use

Surface preparation

Clean up carefully with a wet mop or HEPA vacuum. Surfaces must be free of dust, mildew, mould, dirt, grease, loose paint, oil, glue size, calcimine, wax, soap and other contamination. Clean mould-stained surfaces with Fiberlock IAQ Advanced Peroxide Cleaner. Fiberlock's US data sheet also names its own US EPA-registered disinfectant cleaners; those registrations do not apply in Australia. Where a job specification calls for a disinfectant, use one listed on the ARTG. Patch irregularities with vinyl patching paste or a suitable patching compound.

Check moisture before you coat. Fiberlock say not to apply when surfaces are above 11% moisture content, which is tighter than the 15% limit on most of their coatings. A pin meter such as the Delmhorst BDX-20 gives you a recorded reading first. Fiberlock do not state which meter scale the figure refers to.

Lead paint: Fiberlock's data sheet warns that scraping, sanding or removing old paint may release lead dust, which is toxic. In older Australian buildings, assume lead paint may be present until it is tested, and follow your state WHS requirements for lead before you disturb painted surfaces.

Substrates

  • Plasterboard: sand joint compound smooth without abrading the paper.
  • Ferrous metal: clean, then prime with a rust-inhibiting direct-to-metal primer (Fiberlock name their IAQ 4000).
  • Timber: seal knots and stains with a stain-blocking primer (Fiberlock name their IAQ 5000).
  • Masonry block: apply a block filler first if a denser surface is wanted (Fiberlock name their IAQ 3000).

The IAQ 3000, 4000 and 5000 primers are not currently listed by CCW. Ask us for an equivalent.

Application tools

  • Brush: synthetic, nylon or polyester bristle
  • Roller: synthetic fibre, 3/8 in (10 mm) nap or longer
  • Airless spray: 0.019–0.025 in tip at 2,200–2,800 psi (152–193 bar)

Tinting

May be tinted to any off-white or pastel base colour. Add up to 2 oz of universal colorant per US gallon (about 15 mL per litre). Start with 50% of the tinting formula and adjust.

Application

Supplied ready to use. If needed, thin sparingly with water, up to ½ pint per gallon (about 60 mL per litre). Apply generously and uniformly by brush or airless spray, and make sure the finished surface is properly sealed. Highly porous surfaces may need two coats.

Clean-up

Clean tools and drips with warm soapy water before the coating dries. Dispose of waste as the SDS and your local authority require, not into stormwater.

Coverage and Drying

Coverage — smooth surfaces 6.1–9.8 m²/L (250–400 ft²/US gal)
One 18.9 L pail, smooth (our calculation) about 115–185 m² per coat
Coverage — porous surfaces 3.7–7.4 m²/L (150–300 ft²/US gal) in the specification panel; the application section gives 100–300 ft²/gal (2.5–7.4 m²/L). Plan on the lower figure.
Touch dry (21–25 °C, 50% RH) 1–2 hours
Recoat 8–16 hours
Minimum application temperature 10 °C
Maximum substrate moisture 11%

Storage and Precautions

Store in a dry place between 4.5 °C and 32 °C and keep from freezing. Stir thoroughly. Do not mix with any other coatings, solvents or colours in oil. Do not apply below 10 °C, when drying conditions are poor, or on surfaces above 11% moisture. Use adequate ventilation. Interior use only.

IAQ 6000HD resists the deteriorating action of mould and mildew. No claim is made for preservative action other than to the coating film, and the product does not protect users or others against food-borne or disease-causing bacteria, viruses, germs or other organisms.

CPVC pipe: Fiberlock advise checking pipe markings and contacting the pipe manufacturer before applying any Fiberlock product to CPVC pipe, as some coating chemicals can cause stress cracking.

A note on earlier versions of this page

Earlier versions of this page listed IAQ 6000HD as Class A fire-rated, described it as ideal for porous material, and gave a 0.021–0.025 in spray tip at 2,000–2,800 psi. The current Fiberlock data sheet gives no fire rating for IAQ 6000HD, positions it for non-porous and semi-porous materials, and specifies 0.019–0.025 in at 2,200–2,800 psi. We have followed the data sheet and are confirming the fire rating with the supplier.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IAQ 6000HD for?

A high-build, mould-resistant finish coat for structural materials, mainly in new construction or after remediation once the substrate is clean and dry. It is a coating, not a cleaner or a mould treatment.

Does it kill mould in the timber?

No. It resists mould growth on its own dry surface only. Remove mould and dry the substrate before coating.

How many coats?

One coat is the design intent. Highly porous surfaces may need two to seal properly.

Can I paint it straight onto plasterboard?

Yes. It is self-priming over bare plasterboard, composition board, ceiling tile and concrete. Metal, knotty timber and open masonry need the primer or filler steps above.

Why is the moisture limit 11%?

That is Fiberlock's stated limit for IAQ 6000HD, tighter than the 15% on most of their coatings. Measure before you coat, especially on recently wet framing.

Is it dangerous goods?

No. The Australian SDS lists it as not regulated for road, air or sea transport. It is still a hazardous chemical, classified Danger.
