Fiberlock IAQ 6000 is a white, tintable mould-resistant coating* containing a fungistatic agent that resists mould growth on the dry coating surface. It is a durable, flexible and permeable 100% acrylic water-based coating for timber, plaster, plasterboard, concrete, masonry block, primed metal and galvanised metal.
This listing: 5 US gallon (18.9 L) pail, white, CCW SKU FL8360-5.
*Resistant to mould growth on the dry coating surface only.
What a fungistatic coating does. It resists mould growth on the surface of the dried coating. It is not a treatment for mould already in the substrate and it does not replace remediation. Clean and dry the substrate first, then coat.
Key Features
- Tested by independent laboratories for mould resistance: ASTM G-21 and ASTM D-3273
- Mould resistant*
- Tintable formula
- 100% acrylic, permeable
- Fast 4-hour recoat
Safety
The Australian SDS (ICP Group Australasia, version 9.25, revised June 2026) gives IAQ 6000 no signal word or pictogram. It is classified for the environment only: H411, toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Keep it and its wash water out of drains and stormwater, and dispose of waste at an authorised collection point. It is not regulated as dangerous goods for road, air or sea transport.
When spraying, Fiberlock's US data sheet calls for a NIOSH-approved respirator with any R, P, N or HE filter; in Australia, select to AS/NZS 1716. CCW stocks the 3M 7502 and 3M 7503 half-face respirators and the 3M 60921 organic vapour/P100 cartridge.
How to Use
Surface preparation
Surfaces must be free of dust, mildew, mould, dirt, grease, loose paint, oil, glue size, calcimine, wax, soap and other contamination. Clean mould-stained surfaces with Fiberlock IAQ Advanced Peroxide Cleaner. Fiberlock's US data sheet also names its own US EPA-registered disinfectant cleaners; those registrations do not apply in Australia. Where a job specification calls for a disinfectant, use one listed on the ARTG. Patch irregularities with vinyl patching paste or a suitable patching compound. IAQ 6000 is self-priming over bare plasterboard, composition board, ceiling tile and concrete.
Lead paint: Fiberlock's data sheet warns that scraping, sanding or removing old paint may release lead dust, which is toxic. In older Australian buildings, assume lead paint may be present until it is tested, and follow your state WHS requirements for lead before you disturb painted surfaces.
Substrates
- Plasterboard: sand joint compound smooth without abrading the paper.
- Ferrous metal: clean, then prime with a rust-inhibiting direct-to-metal primer (Fiberlock name their IAQ 4000).
- Timber: seal knots and stains with a stain-blocking primer (Fiberlock name their IAQ 5000).
- Masonry block: apply a block filler first if a denser surface is wanted (Fiberlock name their IAQ 3000).
Application tools
- Brush: synthetic, nylon or polyester bristle
- Roller: synthetic fibre, 3/8 in (10 mm) nap or longer
- Airless spray: 0.019–0.021 in tip at 2,000–3,000 psi (138–207 bar)
Tinting
May be tinted to an off-white or pastel base colour. Add up to 2 oz of universal colorant per US gallon (about 15 mL per litre). Start with 50% of the tinting formula and adjust.
Application
Supplied ready to use. If needed, thin sparingly with water, up to ½ pint per gallon (about 60 mL per litre). Apply generously and uniformly by brush, roller or airless spray. Apply one coat and make sure the finished surface is properly sealed; some porous surfaces need two.
Clean-up
Clean tools and drips with warm soapy water before the coating dries. Dispose of waste as the SDS and your local authority require.
Technical data
From the Fiberlock product data sheet for IAQ 6000 (8360). Imperial figures are the manufacturer's; the metric equivalents are ours.
- Type: 100% acrylic, water-based, containing a fungistatic agent
- Solids by weight: 54.6% ±2%; by volume: 39.6% ±2%
- Viscosity: 90–95 Krebs units at 21 °C
- VOC: 1.7 g/L (EPA method), 6 g/L (SCAQMD method)
- Weight: 1.33 kg/L (11.1 lb/gal ±0.5)
- Flash point: non-combustible
- Shelf life: 36 months minimum in the original sealed container
Coverage
- Smooth surfaces: 6.1–9.8 m²/L (250–400 ft²/gal; 25–40 m² per 4 L)
- Porous surfaces: 3.7–7.4 m²/L (150–300 ft²/gal; 15–30 m² per 4 L)
An 18.9 litre pail therefore covers roughly 115–185 m² on smooth surfaces, or 70–140 m² on porous ones. Porous substrates can take more than double the material, which is worth allowing for when quoting a job.
Application
- Drying at 21–25 °C and 50% relative humidity: touch dry 1 hour, recoat 4 hours
- Minimum application temperature: 10 °C
- Maximum substrate moisture: 15%
- Airless spray: 0.019–0.021 inch tip at 138–207 bar (2,000–3,000 psi)
Independent test results
- ASTM G-21 fungal resistance: 0 — no growth, the highest score possible
- ASTM D-3273 mould resistance: 10 — 0% defacement, the highest score possible
- ASTM E-84 surface burning: flame spread 0, smoke developed 30
- Water vapour permeance: 42 perms
- Product label (18.9 L)
These are US test methods. Fiberlock publish no Australian fire test for IAQ 6000; confirm acceptance with the specifier or certifier where Australian requirements apply.
Substrates and standards
Recommended by the manufacturer for timber, plaster, wallboard, plasterboard, concrete, masonry block, primed metal and galvanised metal, and for new structural materials during construction.
Fiberlock state that IAQ 6000 meets or surpasses the performance criteria in the IICRC S520 mould remediation standard, and recommend it for AIA/CSI 02 87 13 and 02 85 00 mould remediation specifications.
Storage and Precautions
Store in a dry place between 4.5 °C and 32 °C. Stir thoroughly. Do not mix with any other coatings, solvents or colours in oil. Do not apply below 10 °C, when drying conditions are poor, or on surfaces above 15% moisture. Use adequate ventilation. Interior use only.
The IAQ 6000 coating is resistant to mould only on the surface of the coating. No mould resistance claim is made other than to the coating itself, and the product does not protect users or others against food-borne or disease-causing bacteria, viruses, germs or other organisms.
CPVC pipe: Fiberlock advise checking pipe markings and contacting the pipe manufacturer before applying any Fiberlock product to CPVC pipe, as some coating chemicals can cause stress cracking.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does IAQ 6000 treat existing mould?
No. It resists mould growth on its own dry surface. Remove mould physically, clean, dry the substrate, then coat.
IAQ 6000 or IAQ 6000HD?
IAQ 6000 is the standard coating, with a 4-hour recoat. IAQ 6000HD is the high-build, heavy-duty version for structural materials in new construction, with an 8–16 hour recoat.
Can it be tinted?
Yes, to off-white and pastel colours, with up to 2 oz of universal colorant per US gallon.
Is it hazardous?
The Australian SDS gives it no signal word and classifies it for aquatic toxicity only (H411). Keep it out of drains and follow the SDS for PPE when spraying.
How much do I need?
Allow 6.1–9.8 m²/L on smooth surfaces and 3.7–7.4 m²/L on porous ones, per coat. One pail covers about 115–185 m² smooth or 70–140 m² porous.
